i SANITARY LINING GARBAGE-RECEPTACLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2, raie.
pcaton led March 23, 1914.. Serial N o.:826,704.
To all whom t may. concern.'
Be it known thatT, Bonner CUXNr-XGHAA, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Brooklyn, in the countyof Kings and State l, of New York, havinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Linings for Garbage-Receptacles, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact specilication. i
This invention relates to receptacles for garbag and has for its object to' provide a sanitary lining for such receptacles which lining may be removed with the contents ofv the receptacle, thus keeping the inner surface of the receptacle clean and free from germs.,` f
Another v'object is to` provide a lining of the ki d described which may be made of 1,ineXP. nsive material and yet have the ci, equi itey strength and durability. A'.' urther object is to provide a lining l may be folded into compact form so as o"l occupy a minimum space in transporte? on and storage.
l Other objects will appear as the descrip- 'tion proceeds.
t The invention will be first hereinafter de- "scribed in connection with the accompanying drawings, whi`c h con'stitute a part of this specification, and thenl more specifi cally defined in' the claim at the-end of the description.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters .are used gf-thrnughout then several Views to designate corresponding parts 2*-F1g'ure 1 1s a central vertical section-of, a lining made in accord.
ance with my'invention. .Fig 2 is a plan View of the same, the position of the attach- 40 ingstabs when bent down into right angles with the walls of the lining being indicated in dotted lines. Fig. 13 is a central vertical section of a' garbage receptacle with my lining attached thereto, and Fig. 4 is a plan View of the lining folded fiat for storage and transportation.
Referring more particularly to the'drawin/gs, A designates the walls and B the bottoin of the lining which is preferably made i ofvpapertreated with parafin or the like to l make it impervious to water. The lower end portion of the wall member A is folded inward as at a and glued or otherwise seper edge of l"the lining.
curely fastened to the peripheral portion of the bottom B. The inwardly folded portion a is made amply wide, as best 1shown in Fig. 2, in order to provide plenty of space for the application of the adhesive substance for making a secure fastening which will hold under the weight of the contents of the lining when the same is removed from the garbage receptacle, and also for preventing leakage at the joint.
The upper edge portion of the wall member is folded down upon itself, as at 0.', to p royide reinforcement at the exposed up- At regular intervals around, the upperl edge of the lining tabs C are secured as at c by glue or other suitable means. These tabsmay be'made of heavy waxed paper and normally7 extend well beyond the edge of the lining, as shown in Fig. l. TVhen the lining is inserted in a garbage receptacle D, as illustrated in Fig. 3, these tabs are bent or folded down over the upper edge of the receptacle to prevent the lining from sagging.
For storage and transportation purposes, the lining lmay be folded flat, as ,shown in Fig. 4, the upper portion of the wall member A being folded or doubled upon itself and the bottom B and lower portionof the wall member folded over upon said wall member, so that the bottom need not 'be folded at all, thus leaving the joint between said bottom and wall member unimpaired by thefolding operation. In other words, the linings when folded in the manner indicated will not tend in anyvdegree to loosen the joint between the bottom and inwardly folded lower end portion @of the wall member, as mightresult from folding the bottom upon itself.
It willbe readily understood that when the lining is applied to a garbage receptacle, as illustrated in Fig. 3, said lining will protect the inner surface of the receptacle from the garbage which will be placed in and 'removed with the lining, a new lining being inserted after the receptacle is emptied each time.
Having thus described myiinvention, what I claim as new and desire tot secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A cylindrical lining for garbage receptacles and the like, made. of paper and hav-v ing its upper edge portion thicker than its naine to this specificationv in the presence olfvv Walls, and spaced paper tabs attached to txto attesting witnesses.
said upper edge portion of the lining and-LI` v '-T projecting therefrom for folding over the". ROBERT CUNNIBGHAM' 5 upper edge of the receptacle to support the VitnesSes:
lining therein. 731. M. CHRISTIE,
In testimony whereof I have signed my l E. STnN-ERXAGEL.,
