Be it known that we, GRACE M. ROTTNER and CARL L. WooonUnY, citizens of the.

United States, and residing in Glendale and Los Angeles, respectively, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sanitary Holders for Spoons, Forks, and Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to articles of personal use and particularly to spoons having sanitary or removable bowls and the principal object is to provide a simple one piece holder for the removable bowl.

It is also an object to provide a spoon, fork or brush with a handle that may be readily formed out of metal of ornamental design and adapted to receive the shank of a spoon or other article of another and preferably lower priced material.

It is a further object to make the removable article of transparent material and preferably inclosing these parts in a sterilized inclosure so that the patron or user may insert the bowl as desired and just before using the complete tool.

In the drawing accompanying this application Figure 1 is a perspective view of a spoon showing the application of the invention thereto Fig. 2 is a cross section of Fig. l on the line 22 Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a fork with the shank thereof in section Fig. 4 is a cross section of the shank shown in Fig. 3 and Fig. 5 is a perspective of a tooth brush provided 'with a curved shank without a holder.

Heretofore in the manufacture of separable spoons and the like the parts have been complicatedor the handle has projected too far into the bowl and has proved unsanitary.

This invention overcomes the above objections and provides a holder and handle of one simple part with no sliding bands or spring connections that may be secured to a one part operating portion in a sanitary manner.

In the drawing 5 designates the handle preferably formed of metal having an ornamental head and the foot or shank thereof 6 grooved or the sides of the T slot preferably used may be formed by bending the sides of a blank to form the slot to receive the arm or shank 7 of the spoon bowl 8.

This bowl or spoon proper is preferably formed of such material as celluloid or the allied materials that may be transparent so that the cleanliness is more apparent and the shank 7 is of such length that it slips into the slot and is frictionally held therein a proper distance from the end of the metal.

The shank 7 may be curved as shown in Fig. 3 applied to a fork tine 9 and to add to its strength is provided with a rib 10 that slides between the two sides of the narrower portion of the parallel T slot in the shank 6 and is of such depth that it entirely fills this opening to form a flush surface, the open slot also providing an opening or exit for dirt that may find its way into the T, also demonstrating that the latter is clean when the parts are approximated.

lVhere the curved shank is used the curvature of the shank 7 is preferably made greater than that of the T in the shank 6 or struck from a smaller radius so that the friction will be assisted by the spring action of the arm or the sides may be cut as designated by numeral 11 on the brush in Fig. 5 so that the spurs from the resilient material of which the part determining the character of the personal instrument. are formed, will form a more resilient resistance to the withdrawal of the bowl, tine or brush when in use. The dotted lines in Fig. 5 represent the fixed curvature of the T slot.

Having thus described our invention what we claim is i 1. An article of the class described comprising a holder handle provided with an open T shaped slot extending from one end thereof into and parallel with the aXis of the handle and an article of personal use provided with a curved arm adapted to engage and fit within said slot.
