Description

SUSPENDERS.
APPLICATION FILED APR.30. 1915.

WITNESS ATTORNEY ETD sane MAY H. sron oE PATEBSON, NEW JERSEY.
SUSPENDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed AprilSO, 1915. Serial No. 24,929.
To. all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAY H. STOHR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of apparel suspenders in which the main straps of the suspenders cross each other at the back and are there secured together. The
means for securing the members together constituting these strapshas heretofore al lowed them to have no free pivotal movement oneach'other, so that the members frequently buckle adjoining their intersec-v tion and, where the securing means con-- sists of stitching, in consequence soon or late disruptthe latter, leaving the two members unconnected wlth each other. 7 My ob ect is to provide a pair of suspenders of the kind indicated above with a means to secure themain straps thereof together where they cross each other in a substantial and durable manner and allow them perfect freedom of pivotal movement upon each other, without ability toseparate.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pair of suspenders constructed in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the back part of the suspenders; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through the intersecting portions of the main suspender straps, thepivoting The straps or members-a a where they cross each other are secured together so as aw Ere.
Patented Mar. a, role.
to have free pivotal movement relatively to each'other as followsfd ,and e denote the two parts of a gromet which are made to clamp between them thestrap a, the part 03 having its upstanding stud d passed through ahole in the corresponding strap .and expanded to grip the lIlSlClG of the upstanding stud c. of the part c.- f and g denote'the two parts of a gromet which are made to clamp between them the other strap a the part ,f having 1ts upstanding-stud f passed through a hole in the corresponding strap and expanded to grip the hole 9 in the part g. The construction is such'that the grlpplng action of the parts of each.
gromet on the corresponding strap: holds them immovably thereto. The stud e of the part c of the one gromet is introduced into the hollow stud f of the part f of the other gromet' and has its free end upset,-as at it, to form a shoulder which retains the two groinetsinseparably coupled together." Thus the two straps a aof the suspenders are coupled so as to pivot or swivel one on the other only. It will be noted thatsince each groinet includes two parts clamped together against the; corresponding strap, each part moreover offering a broad fiat surface to the strap, there is a secure holding of the fabric or other material of the strap by the gromet. 7
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters'Patent is a I r A connecting device of the class described including a pair of two-part gromets, the 7 parts of eachgromet being adapted to clamp between them one of the members to be connected and each gromet having a pivotal bearing on the'other gromet and inseparably connected therewith.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
MAY, H. STOHR.
