To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NATHANIEL BRAHAM, a subject of the King of England, residing at Asbury Park, in the county of Monmouth and State ofNew Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Picture-Exhibitors, of which the following is a specification.

Another object of the invention is that while the webs are being operated, a device is employed whereby a spectator is unable to see the method of winding or unwinding the webs; so as to give the effect of a vanishing picture or advertisement.

Another object of the invention is to provide a picture exhibitor with a pair of webs which are adapted to be interchanged or substituted by other webs, so that the advertisement or picture may be varied.

I construct my device so that the wear upon the webs is reduced to a minimum and stretching of the same is avoided.

The novel features of the invention are more fully described in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

or bracket (Z each having a channel 6 and a rim f located respectively at the forward and rear part of the bracket. A carriage consisting of slides 9 rovided with angular projections it are adapted to engage the channels and forward parts of the brackets. These slides are joined together by means of a pair of transverse tubular rods 2' thereby forming a carriage to move up or down in the channels of the wall plate. At the front portions of the carriage is located a bar j extending centrally from one slide to the other, the object of which will be hereinafter described. The carriage also carries vertically arranged guide plates la secured to the upper and lower portions of the slides.

A pair of reels m are journaled in the sliding plates of the carriage. To each reel is fastened one end of a web of belt n while the other end of each web is secured at 0 to the respective upper and lower adjacent i portions of the case. Both of the reels can be connected together by a belt or as shown in the drawings by gears 37 so that when the carriage is actuated both reels will rotate to simultaneously wind or unwind the web. The webs are guided to the reels by means of a pair of idler rollers 9 located at the forward part of the carriage.

It is evident that either one of the webs may be replaced by a web having diiferent pictures thereon without changing the other web. For instance it may be desirable to substitute the upper web with one having depicted thereon a girls figure having a different form hat or having a different facial expression. It is furthermore evident that stretching of the webs is prevented, as they are rolled directly upon the reels without passing over a plurality of pulleys, and that also excessive wear upon the web is prevented.

Cords or cables 1" are connected'to the upper and lower portions of the carriage. These connections pass over rollers 8 disposed at the bottom and top of the interior of the case. The end of each cord is secured to a drum 2? arranged on a driving shaft u at the rear part of the case. This driving shaft can be rotated by belt connection from a pulley o to a motor not shown. The motor can be provided with any well known reversing device whereby the rotation of the shaft u can be reversed.

It will be seen that when the shaft 14 is rotated it Winds up one of the cords and unwinds the other. Hence actuating the carriage up or down in a rectilinear path and at the same time revolving the reels to wind one of the webs and unwind the other. When the carriage is moving upward the upper reel will be rotated by the pull exerted on the lower web which unwinds the lower reel and by means of the gear connection rotates the upper reel to wind its web. In other words the sliding movement of the carriage either up or down, will by tensioning either of the webs transmit rotary motion to the reels in a direction to unwind one of the webs and wind the other.
