ELEAZAR T. WILKINSON, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNGR TO DAVID l' LUPTONS SONS COMPANY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION 0F PENNSYLVANIA.
FAS'IENER FOR WIND OW-PANES.
'Patenteanen 15', S1916.
Y Application led September 23, 19.11. Serial No. 650,865.
To all 'whom t may Concern.'
Be it known that I, ELEAZAR T. WILKIN- soir, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners for IVindow--Panea whereof the following is avv .specificatiom` reference being had to the accompanying.
drawings.
The invention relatesto a device for fas` tening a pane within a window sash without sash bars at the time'of their manufacture, l and are inserted wherever it is desired that the pane shall be secured by a fastener.
In place of the pin 4, any construction of f 70 tuted -by which a projecting Vledge is the use of putty or cement.
It is simple and readily applied, and further permits lof the ready removal and :replacement of the pane when desired.
It consists of a strip of metal with a projecting ledge and also with an inclined edge for wedging it against a projection set in the'sash bar as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated a convenient embodiment of my A invention, wherein- Figure I, is a plan view of a por'tion'of a window sash having the panes secured according to my invention. Fig. II, is a sectional view ofthe sameon a larger scale, taken on the line II, II of Fig. I. Fig. III, is a cross section along the line III, III, of Fig. II. Fig. IV, is a perspective View of the fastener.
In the drawings the sash bars are shown of a usual form, comprising ahead 1, and a tongue 2. The panes 3, are inserted in place so as to lie against the fiat surfaces of the head. Abolt or pin 4, is-passed through and secured within the tongue of the sash bar. This pin may preferably be tubular inform, with its edges upset to prevent its withdrawal from the aperture in the tongue which receives it. The upset edges of the pin form flanges 5, 5, are'are so spaced as to leave room for the insertionv of` a thin piece of metal between the flange and the tongue of the sash bar, in which the pin is inserted.
Y The fastener proper is made of a piece of sheet metal in the form of a strip 10, withV After the pane is in place, oneof the fasteners is inserted, so that the lower' edge of the strip lies between the edge ofthe pane and the tongue of the sash bar, the fold 11,
of the fastener lying fiat against the surface of the pane and forming the pane-holding element. By reason of the sloping edge 12, the strip 10, is narrower at one'end than the other, and at the narrow end is capable of being inserted beneath the flange of the" pin 4:. It may thenbeeither slid or driven along the surface of thejtongue 4until thev inclined edge of the fastener causes it to becomeiirmly wedged between the glass and the pin.
The pins 4t, are preferably attached to the the tongue `of the sash bar may be substiportion thereof extending between the win' dow paneand the tongue of the sash bar,
said metal strip having a projecting ledge forming a paneholdingelement, said strip.
having its upper edge inclined, whereby it may after insertion between the window pane and the Ytongue of the sash bar beslid lengthwise underneath the resistance point and wedged beneath the same with lthe pane beneathits pane holding element.
2. A fastening device foi` a window pane comprising a sash bar having a pin with'a flanged head attached to the tongue thereof, y l
and a metal strip with a projecting ledge forming'a pane-holding element, said strip having an inclined edge whereby vit may"v after insertion between the pane and-tongue ofthe sash bar be wedged beneath the flanged head of the pin, with the pane beneath its pane-holding element.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name at Philadelphia, Pennsyl- Vania, this ELEAZAR T. WILKINSON. Vitnesses: 1 Y
