Description
PATENTED JUL 18 1871 1170 1 l 'w I "mvwkm ANTHONY KEHL, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PEG-SHARPENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No..117,081, dated July 18, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY KEHL, of the city of Indianapolis, county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Peg- Wood Sharpener, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to furnish watchmakers with a convenient tool for sharpening the peg-woods which they use for cleaning and oiling the journal-holes of watches. The nature of the invention will be understood from the following general description:
Figure 1 is a side view of the device 5 Fig. 2, an end view; Fig. 3, a detailed view of the bot tom of the part marked a c; Fig. 4, a detailed view of the part marked 1) b.
The top of the device consists of a plate of metal so shaped that the two halves thereof will form an angle with each other, as represented by a and c of Figs. 1 and 2. In a dovetail cut in c is fastened a standing knife, represented by e of said Figs. 1 and 2. To hold the device it is provided with a convenient dovetail slide, represented by d, which is fastened by a neck to the under side of 0. This slide fits into a corresponding dovetail, represented by I) in the plate I), the whole device being, when properly arranged and constructed, as is represented in the drawing, each part being distinguished by its proper letter.
To use this device it is fastened with a screw, which passes through a convenient hole in the plate I), to the edge of a work-bench, or to any other suitable place; and having been inclined to the proper angle the end of the peg-wood is drawn through the angle formed by the plate a and the knife 0, inclining a little to the plate. Each time the wood is drawn through, the knife will cut a shaving inclining to the point. If the wood be turned each time it is drawn through a fine smooth point can be quickly and easily obtained, and much more satisfactorily than with an ordinary knife. VVhenthc device is not needed for use the slide (1 maybe taken out of the dovetail 1) and the plate I) can be left upon the bench, and when again wanted for use it can be just as easily replaced.
This device may also be used for sharpening pencils and many other similar articles.
I claim as my invention The peg-wood sharpener l1 ercin described, when constructed substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as mine I hereto set my hand this 26th day of May, 1871.
ANTHONY KEHL.
