To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE H. CHRISTEN- SEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Receptacle-Holders, of-which the following'is a specification.-

This invention relates to receptacle holders or supports and more particularly to a device for detachably suspending a can or other receptacle for containing washing powders and the like in a convenient place where the same is readily accessible when it is desired to use the contents thereof.

Briefly'stated, the invention comprises a rod having slidably mountedthereon a pair of clamping elements adapted to engage and support the container, said elements being carried by and adjustable on a contracting spring for yieldably retaining the same in their clamping positions, it being necessary to spread the elements apart in order to detach the receptacle.

The inventive idea involved-is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illustrating the invention, is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of the holder. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof showing its application. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, in which like reference characters designate similar parts, the numeral 1 indicates an elongated rod having at one end thereof the bent portion 2 to provide a hook or support for the holder when it is not desired to use the contents of the receptacle. The other end of the rod 1 is provided with a flattened portion 3 having a sharpened end 1, for the purpose of punching an aperture in the receptacle.

Movable longitudinally on the rod 1 are oppositely disposed clamping elements 5, preferably formed from a flat piece of metal and having the receptacle engaging ends bent, as indicated at 6, in order to insure a secure hold upon the container. The other end of each element 5 is bent to form a laterally extending lug 7 having an opening therein for the reception of the rod 1. These lugs 7 also provide suitable finger grips for the purpose of spreading the clam ing elements apart, when it is desired to emove a receptacle after the same has become empty. A contracting coil spring 8 is loosely mounted upon the rod 1 and each clamping element is threaded on said spring between the coils thereof in order that the same may be adjusted to have sufficient tension to effectively engage the ends of and -support the receptacle, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The hook portion 2 of the rod 1 also acts as a suitable grip for the purpose of removing the holder from its support and tilting the same to empty the contents of the receptacle.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that the invention contemplates providing a simple, efficient device for holding and supporting a container, and that the same may be manufactured at a minimum cost.

I claim 1. A receptacle holder comprising a rod having a support at one end thereof, a coil spring loosely mounted on said rod, and clamping elements each including a laterally extending lug having an opening therein for the reception of said spring, said opening being of a less diameter than the coils of the spring whereby the clamping element may be adjusted back and forth to regulate the tension thereof on the receptacle. said clamping elements being provided with inturned ends for engaging said receptacle.
