HARNESS-LOOP.
Application filed Ju1y 6, 1909.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT L. SESSIONS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bristol, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Harness-Loop, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the class of devices more commonly used in leather or like fiexible structures as a harness, for the connection. or attachment of straps and like parts, and the object generally of the invention is to provide a device of this class having numerous novel features of advantage and utility.
Certain forms of device in the use of which the objects sought may be attained are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a face view of a harness loop embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an ed 'e View of the same. Fig. 3 is a face view of a loop showing a slightly different form of construction. Fig. is an ed 'e view of the latter form of loop. Fig. 5 is a face view of a loop showing another form of construction.
The invention may be applied generally to any form of flexible structure in which it is desired to connect or attach straps or like parts having loops formed by over-turning the ends and stitching to the main part as a means of attachment to the connecting part, the latter usually being constructed of metal, and in the drawings herein a loop is shown which is especially applicable when attached to the trace of a harness as a means of removably securing the trace to a whitlietree or like part, the construction affording means whereby the trace may be attached to the metallic loop without destroying the stitched loop formed on the trace.
My improved loop is preferably formed of sheet metal stamped or otherwise properly shaped and having an opening 6 at one end for the attachment to a whittletree or part thereon constructed to receive the trace. This loop being first formed to shape as above described with the opening 6 and the side bars 7, the outer ends of the latter are given a partial twist, as at 8, so that the flat surfaces of the side parts shall be presented Copies of Specification of Letters Patent.

toward each other, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Openings are formed in these twisted portions of the side parts, preferably near the outer ends, through which a bolt 9 extends, which bolt is held in place by a nut 10.
In the form of device shown in Figs. 3 and i the opening (3 is formed as above described, but only one of the side parts 7 is twisted at its outer end 8. lVhen the plate is first cut or stamped to shape it is provided with a side part 11 and a end bar 12, both formed flat with the plane of the plate. The end bar 12 has a lug 13 integrally formed on the bar, which lug projects through an opening 14:, the lug being headed over or otherwise formed to secure the end 8 to the bar.
In the form of device shown in Fig. 5 the parts are constructed much the same as in Figs. 3 and i, having the opening 6, side parts 7 and 11, the former being twisted at its outer end as at 8. In this form of device the lug l i is threaded to receive a nut 15.
It will thus readily be seen from the illustration and accompanying description that my improved harness loop may be readily engaged with or disengaged from stitched loop in a strap or like part without dcstruction of said stitched loop, but I do not limit the invention to the precise construction shown and described herein.
1 claim A harness loop consisting of a plate formed from a thin piece of metal and having an opening at one end to 'eceive a barness strap and with. the metal removed at the opposite end to form side parts, one of said side parts being twisted at its outer end to present its fiat surface substantially at right angles to the main part of the plate and with a substantial part of said side part located substantially in the plane of the flat surface of the plate, and an end bar sccured in an opening in said side part and so arranged in conjunction with the said side .parts as to form a loop.
