There are in common use two kinds of eX- panded metal lathing, the first consisting of plastic concrete or plaster can pass through the lathing and cover the back side thereof as well as the front side. This construction has the disadvantage of requiring spacing ,de-vices or furring strips separate from the lathing itself, thus greatly increasing the time'required to place the lathing in posi- Bo'tion over that which would-be necessary in `order `to fasten merely the sheets of lathing in place. furring strips, as well as .the ribs on ordinary ribbed lathing have the disadvantage that itA is difficult to get the concrete or plaster into all of the crevices and about all ofstlle exposed surfaces in suche way that the plastic material will be edectively keyed in place and thoroughly cover all of the metallic surfaces so as to protect them. Consequently some portions of the 'lathing will always be left more or less unprotected.
The object of the present invention is to produce a simple and novel sheet of lathing which shall have a continuously reticiulated surface and be provided with strengthening and Spacing ribs which will not interfere with the continuity of the face of the sheet, whereby the lathing will be made strong and rigid, and(` 'aces itself apart from a support Specification of Letters Patent.

The various features of novelty whereby my invention is characterized will hereinafter be pointed out with particularity in the claims; but, for a full understanding of my invention and of its object and advantages, reference may be 'had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the 'accompanying drawings, wherein:

In carrying out my invention I form a sheet having vabout the same dimensions as those usually given the ordinarvplain expanded metal lathing, by placing side by side and permanently fastening together a series offnarrow strips each of which consists of a body of reticulated metal having a portion-at each side bent laterally at right angles'to form a Harige; the flanges ofcontiguous sheets being riveted or otherwise permanently fastened together and thusprovidingv the sheet' witha series of thin stiifening and spacing ribs on the rear side and leaving the face of the sheet in the form of a continuous reticulated surface.
