APPARATUS FOR USE IN BUILDING CONCRETE STRUCTURES.
Application filed July 28, 1911.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, JoI-IN WILSON, a citi-- zen of the Dominion of New Zealand, and resident of Auckland, in the Provincial District of Auckland, in the Dominion of New Zealand, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Apparatus for Use in Building Concrete Structures, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to forms or molds employed in the construction of concrete and ferro concrete buildings.
The object of the invention is to reduce the quantity of timber required 'in making.
the mold boxes and to effect saving of time in their construction.
According hereto studs or stanchions of L-shaped section intended to be permanently located during the construction ofa rectangular building, are employed at each in side corner stanchions are a series of superposed shut ters forming the inside of the mold, and so arranged that the lowest shutter, after a course of concrete has been filled in, can be removed and fixed above the others. A series of superposed transposable shutters, connected by bolts to the stanchions, is also employed for the outside wall of the mold. In many cases corner stanchions only will be required, but for long walls'intermediate stanchions should be used.
In molding a curved wall the stanchions are curved on their outer and inner faces the edges being beveled at each side and the shutters of the desired radius.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings wherein Figure 1 is an elevation partly in section of the inside of the mold at a corner of a building, Fig. 2 is a corresponding plan, and Fig. 3 an end perspective sectional elevation, Fig. l is a sectional plan showing the invention employed in connection with curved construction, and Fig. 5 a corre sponding elevation.
Referring first to Figs. 1 to 3. The drawing shows a corner stanchion 1 of L section and a plain intermediate stanchion 2. Fitting between these stanchions are the superposed shutters 3 and 4 having secured upon them the plates 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 which project beyond the edges of the shutters at each side and bear against the faces of the stanchions. projecting from the faces of the stanchions Specification of Letters Patent.

pass through holes in said plates 5, 6, 7, and
8 and cotter keys 17 passing through slots 1 in said pins retain the shutter 3 in position. Shutter -it is fixed in position at its lower end by washer plates, 18 and 19 respectively, pivoted at one end by screw bolts 20 to the respective stanchions 1 and 2, and turnable vertically over the ends of the respective plates 9 and 10 as shown in Fig. 1. Similar washer plates 21 and 22 pivoted upon the respective ti- ebolts 23 and 24 are turnable horizontally thereon to hold the upper part of the shutter in place. The pins 13, 14, 15 and 16 are employed only in connection with the lower shutter 3, as to effect its removal it must be drawn horizontally away from the stanchions. In the case of shutter 4 the washer plates 21 and 22 are turned to clear the shutter which may then be drawn away at the top from the stanchions and then lifted clear of the lower washer plates 18 and 19. The plates upon the shutters and the holes therein and the positions of the bolts on the stanchions are arranged and lclioclated to make the shutters interchangea e. similar bolts indicated by 25 pass through the stanchions, across the space which is to be occupied by concrete and through superposed shutters 26 and 2'? which form the The tie bolts 23 and 24 and other outside wall of the mold. The shutters 26 and 27 are withdrawn to change their location vertically by removing the nuts from the ends of the tie bolts. in the drawing shutters 30 and 31,. on the inside wall, and
.32 and 33, on the outside wall, are shown curved to suit the radius of the wall. Superposed transposable inner shutters 38 fit between the stanchions and are held in position by the means described in reference to the preceding figures. The stanchions are beveled upon their sides to permit the shutters to be Withdrawn inwardly. The super posed outer shutters 39 are secured to the stanchions by the tie bolts 40 in the manner a ready deseribed! What I do claim and desire to secure by Letters'Patent of the United States is 1. A mold for use in concrete construction, comprising a single series of stanchions, a plurality of superposed shutters forming with said stanchions one wall of said mold, a plurality of superposed shutters forming the other Wall ofsaid' mold, tie-rodspassing through said stanchions and through the shutters of the outer wall for holding said shutters in position, and means carried by said tie-rods for holding the shutters of the first wall in position.
A= mold for use in concrete construction, comprising a single series of stanchions, plurality of superposed shutters forming with said stanchions one wall of sai'd mold", tie-rods carried by said stanchionsextending on both sides thereof, means on said tie-rods for holding said" shutters in position, a plurality of superposed shutters forming the other wall of said mold," and'means on said tie-rods for'hol'ding" the last mentioned shutters in position.
3; A mold'ffor use in concrete construction, comprising a single series of stanchions, a plurality of superposed shutters forming with said stanchio'ns one wall of said mold, members rigidly secured to said shutters and adapted to engage said stanchioris, tie-rods passing through said stanchions, means on said tie-rods adaptedto engage said members on the shutters to hold the latter in position, a plurality of superposed shutters forming the other wall of said" mold, and means carried by said tie rods for holding the shutters of said other Wall in position;
4. A mold for use in concrete construction', comprising a single series of stanchion's, superposed shutters forming the insidewall ofthe mold, superposed shutters forming the outside wall of the mold, tierods passing through said stanchions, means carried by said tie-rods for holding said outershutters in position, plates rigidly secured to said inner shutters and pivoted plates carried by said tie-rods adapted to engage the plates on the shutters to hold the shutters in position.
5. A mold for use in concrete construction, comprising a single series of L- shaped corner stanchions, superposed shutters forming with said stanchions the inside walls of said mold and extending at right angles onboth' sides of said stanchions, superposed shutters parallel to said inside shutters and forming the outside walls of the mold, two setsof tie-rods extending on both sides of said stanchions, the two sets being at right angles to each other, means carried by said tie-rods for holding the inside shutters in position and means carried by said tie-rods for holding the outside shutters'in position.
6; A mold for use in concrete construction, comprising a plurality of stanchions, superposed shutters forming the inside wall of the mold, superposed shutters forming the outside wall of the mold, tie-rods carried by said stanchions extending on bothsides thereof, means carried by said tie-rods for holding. said outer shutters in position, plates rig-idly secured to said shutters and pivoted plates'carried by said tie-rods adapted to engage the plates on the shutters to hold the shutters in position.
In testimony whereof I- have have signed my'name to=thisspecification in the presence of twowitnesses;
JOHN WILSON. Witnesses:
