To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD A. BENIsoH, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Automatic Siphon-Filling Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in apparatus for filling siphon bottles with carbonated or aerated water.
It provides a device of this character which is simple in construction, and allows a number of bottles to be filled at the same time and yet requires only a minimum of attention by the operator. The devices of this sort in use at the present day have a great many drawbacks which render them inefficient for their purpose. Most machines designed for filling siphon bottles require the undivided attention of the operator and are only able to accommodate one bottle at a time, also, they do not operate in such a manner as to fill each bottle completely and uniformly. Furthermore, in the devices of this kind in present day use there is no provision made for allowing the escape of superfluous gas from the siphon bottle during the filling operation, and as a result the bottle often bursts thereby exposing the operator of the apparatus to serious injury.
The apparatus constructed according to my invention is so designed as to eliminate the disadvantages above enumerated and also to greatly improve and facilitate in other ways the filling of siphon bottles.
In the drawings annexed hereto and forming a part of this specification, I have illus trated the preferred embodiment of my invention and Figure 1 shows in side elevation, partly in section, a siphon bottle filling apparatus constructed according tomy invention. Fig. 2 is a partial elevation and cross sectional view.
Referring to the drawing: Upon the pedestal 1 is mounted the annular casing 2 having an aperture 3 in the top thereof, and carrying the head cap 4- in which is journaled the shaft 5 carrying the worm 6 and driving pulley 7. The other end of the shaft is carried in the journaled bearing 8 mounted on the annular casing 2. Journaled in the casing 2 and head piece 4, and concentric therewith, is the upright member 9 having therein a chamber 10 and passage 11 leading thereto through the spindle 12. The
spindle 12 carries a worm wheel 13 meshing with the worm 6 which latter rotates the member 9 when driving force is applied to the pulley 7. lVithin the casing 2 and seoured to the member 9 and adapted to rotate therewith, is mounted the horizontal table l l. The table 14 carries a multiplicity of bottle filling nozzles 15 fed through the tubes 16, the feed being controlled by the valve 17 normally held on its seat by the spring 18, the valve being actuated by the rotary movement of the table through the medium of the roller 19 and the stationary track 20 mounted on the bottom of the annu lar casing 2.
On the side wall of the casing 2 are mounted the two tracks 21 and 22 having undulated surfaces which engage the levers 23 and 2%, the former serving to hold the head of the siphon bottle 25 when the bottle is in the position shown, and the latter serving to actuate, at the proper time, the valve operating handle 26 of the bottle. A, passage 27 leading from the filling nozzle is controlled by the weighted release valve 28 which is adapted to be controlled by the lever arm 29 carrying the roller 30 tracking on the cam surface of the track 31 mounted. on the bottom of the casing 2. The release valve 28 serves to release the superfluous gas confined in the bottle during the filling operation. I
The operation of the machine is as follows: The operator inserts a bottle 25 through the opening 3 and places it in the position shown. Vith the nozzle of the bottle in the filling nozzle of the machine, and the head and valve operating levers in engagement with the levers 23 and 24, respectively, as the table let rotates the valve on the bottle and the valve feeding the filling nozzle are simultaneously opened allowing carbonated water to flow into the bottle from the chamber 10 which is fed by an external supply through the passage 11. The carbonated water entering the bottle flows toward its neck portion leaving the end of the tube 32 exposed, and also leaving a superfiuity of the gas in the bottom of the bottle which must be released before the bottle can be completely filled without danger of bursting. Therefore, as the table moves farther around the feeding valve 17 closes and the release valve 28 opens releasing the superfluous gas in the bottle. This release valve then closes and the valve 17 again opens and completely fills the bottle. lhen as the table moves still farther around the valve 17 again closes and the bottle appears at the opening 3 where it is removed by the operator. It will be seen that the operation of the machine will be continuous, the operator replacing the filled bottles with empty ones as fast as they appear at the opening 3.
It is understood that I do not limit myself to the particular construction herein illustrated and described, but may resort to such modifications as fall within the scope of my claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is An automatic siphon filling apparatus comprising, in combination, a pedestal, a substantially cylindrical casing rigidly mounted on said pedestal, a table rotatably mounted on said pedestal inside of said casing, an,
upright member rigidly mounted on said table centrally in respect to said casing, a chamber provided in said upright member, a feed-channel leading from said chamber to the upper end of said upright member, means for connecting to the upper end of said upright member. feeding means communicating with said feed-channel, a plu rality of nozzles mounted equidistantly around the outer periphery of said table, feeding tubes leading from said chamber to each of said nozzles, means for inserting the nozzles of siphon bottles into said firstmentloned nozzles, spring actuated levers for holding said siphon bottles in engageof said casing, respectively, for-actuating;
said levers, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
