To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT HUNDT, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Pankow, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrical Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to windings for electrical apparatus, particularly to high voltage windings for transformers.
The object of my invention is to provide for the protection of such windings against the more or less transient disturbances to which they are likely to be subjected and which generally originate outside the windo thisend-I parallel the end coils or portions of each winding, or the coils or vportions of the winding likely to be subjected to the disturbances, with a special or auxiliary coil in such a manner that the two coils (or the auxiliary winding and the portion of the main Winding paralleled thereby) form a condenser, the auxiliary coil or winding being connected to ground. The coils or portions of the main winding, with which the auxiliary coil or winding is associated, are substantiallyheavily insulated according to prior practice.
The connection to ground may be of various safety devices, some of which will be later described more in detail.
In the following description and the accompanying drawing, I have described and illustrated certain embodiments of my invention.
Figure 1 diagrammatically illustrates a simple embodiment of my invention; and Figs. 2 and 3 illustrate diagrammatically two safety devices in the grounding connection.

The special or auxiliary coil or winding 4 is in parallel with the turns of the end coil 1 in such a manner this art and I those which are extra that the two coils form a condenser. It may, however, be provided with safety devices of various sorts for limiting the flow of energy over it. Two examples of this are shown in Figs. 2 and 3 wherein respectively a spark gap is illustrated at 7 and an ohmic re-' sistance at 8. This arrangement may be used invarious places and with Various constructions, but is of special importance with railway transformers where often there is hardly sufficient space for a special coin denser. The arrangement also allows the insulation of the end coils from turn to turn to be conveniently tested.
While I have described the principle of my invention and the best mode I have contemplated for applying this principle, other modifications will occur to those skilled in aim in the appended claims to cover all modifications which do not in-- volve a departure from the spirit and scope of my invention.
What I claim as new and desire. to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is,--
1. The combination with an electrical winding, of a grounded auxiliary winding arranged in parallel with the ,end turns of said electrical winding and forming a con denser therewith.
2. The combination wlth an electrical. f I winding, of an auxiliary winding arranged in 'parallel with the end turns of said elec- 'trical winding and forming therewith a ALBERT HUNDT.
