Description

E. DINGMAN.
Clothes LineHolders.
Patented June20,1871.
UNrrE STATES EMERSON DINGMAN, OF LIVERPOOL, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT lN CLOTHES-LINE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,034, dated June '20, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMERSON DINGMAN, of Liverpool, in the county ofOnondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Line Holders, or Line-Holders and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is asectional side view, and Fig. 2 is a front view. ,7
Similar letters of reference in dicate likeparts.
This invention consists in a cast-metal cap, having on its top vertical standards, in which are mounted an anti-friction pulley and a serrated cam, the said cam having an arm or handle, on the end of which is a counter-balance or weight, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, A is a castmetal cap or socket, having standards a a on its top, in which are pivoted a pulley, B, and a toothed cam-lever, G, the said lever having a weight, D, on its outer end, as shown in Fig.1.
As the slack of the line is drawn through the holder the counterbalance or weight D causes the toothed cam to engage more readily, and prevents it from losing its hold when the line is shaken by wind or other causes, and answers as a handle to open the holder.
By means of the cap A the holder is mounted on a wooden post, E, in a neat and substantial manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The cap or socket A, having standards a a, in which are mounted an anti-friction roller,B, and serrated cam-lever O, with counter-balance D, all constructed and arranged as and for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 3d day of April, 1871.
EMERSON DIN GMAN.
