have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar Alarm Bolts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will en able others skilled in heart to which'it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a burglar bolt. Y I I An object of the inventionresides in the provision of a device'bymeans of which a door may be locked and which, when an at tempt is made to force the door, wlll give an alarm. p

A further object of the invention resides in so constructing the device that a plurality of alarm bells will be provided, one'of which will be mechanically operated and the other of which wil be electrically operated. A still further object of the invention resides in so constructing'the device that it may be used as an ordinary doorbell. In order that an electric bell maybe sib multaneou'sly rung, I have provided a contact member 14 which is secured to the portion 5 of the base plate with its free e'nd15v projecting beyond the adjacent edge of the opening 8; Connected tothis contactis; a binding post 16 1-which extends outwardly from the opposite side of the portion and is insulatedjfrom the said portion as is also the contact 1 L Secured tothe end of'the bolt 7, which extends thfough the 'o eni'n 8, is a binding post 17 which is in electrical communication with the said bolt. Secured to the binding post 17 is a wire 18 which extends to a switch 23 and thence-to one pole of a battery 19. Extending from this battery is a wire20' which is connected to an electric bell 21 of the ordinary type from scribed and causes the bell 21 to ring at the same time that the bell 12 is rung by the engagement of the bolt 7 with the button 13.

t will thus be seen that as the attempt is made to force the door, both the bells 12 and 21 will be caused to sound an alarm. It is obvious that the bell 21 may be placed at any position in the house and it may or may not be used because of the presence of the switch 23 by 'means of which the circuit maybe broken if desired.

In order that the device may be used as an ordinary door belll have secured a push button 24: to the outer face of the door, the rod 25 of which extends through the door and the inner end of which rod projects through an opening in the portion 3 of the base plate and bears against the bolt 7. This rod is normally pushed outwardly, however,

by a spring 26 in the push button casing.

When the rod is pushed inwardly against the tension of the spring the engagement of the inner end thereof with the bolt 'Zwill cause the bolt to rock about the projection 11 as apivot and thus ring thebell l2-and complete the circuit in which the bell 21 is included or ringjthe bell 12 alone if the cir- V cuit in which thebell 21 is included is broken by the switch 23.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that l have provided a device bymeans of which a door may be locked and which will give an alarm should an attempt be made to force the door. I have provided an electrically and a mechanically operated bell which will be simultaneously actuated upon the rocking movement of the locking bolt, which movement will be caused when an attempt is made to force the dooropen. I have further provided a push button by 7 means of which the device may be used as an ordinary door bell and either the mechanically operated bell, may be used alone prutogether with the electrically operated )e While I have illustrated and described a particular embodiment of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I do not wish to be limited to that particular embodiment as it is obvious that numerous changes may be made within the details of construction thereof Without in any Way departing from the spirit of the'invention or exceeding the scope of the appended claims.

That I claim is 1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a slidable bolt for looking the door, means for supporting the bolt in such manner that it may have a rocking movement, a mechanically operated bell and an electrically operated bell operatively connected to said boltin such manner that when a rocking motion is imparted thereto they will be simultaneously rung.

2. In a device of the class described, an angular base plate, a bolt slidably mounted on the said base plate, means for supporting the bolt in such manner that it may have rocking movement, a mechanically operated bell having a push button engaging said bolt, a binding post on said bolt, a contact on said baseplate insulated therefrom, a circuit including a source of electrical supply and a bell havingthe said contact and binding post as terminals, the said push button and contact being so arranged that upon the rocking movement of the bolt the mechanically operated bell will be rung and the bolt will engage the contactand cause the electrically operated bell to be rung.

3. In a device of the class described, a base plate, a bolt slidably mounted thereon constructed and arranged to lock a door, means for supporting the bolt on the base plate in such manner that it may have rocking movement, a mechanically operated bell including apush button mounted on said base plate, the said push button being arranged to bear against the bolt, means for rocking the bolt to operate said push button to ring the bell, an el ctric bell, and means to ring the electric bell upon the inward movement of the push button.
