To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, ROBERT E. F ORRES'IER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burleson, in the county of Tar-rant and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Cultivator-Cuff, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention is directed to improvements in connections for cultivator beams, and has for its object to so construct a device of this character that the distance between the shovel standard and the beam may be regulated and adjusted, and held in position independently and without molesting the angle or fastenings which control the angle of the shovel standard.
A further object of the invention is to produce a connection of this type constructed in such a manner that the shovel standard may be adjusted at dilferent angles in relation to the beam.
WVith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a fragmentary side elevation of a cultivator beam showing the device in place thereon. Fig. 2 is a similar view taken from the opposite side of the beam. Fig. 3 is a top plan view. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 44 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a similar view on line 55 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a bottom plan view.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a portion of a cultivator beam, and upon which the connection is mounted.
The connection 2 consists of a metal clamp comprising upper and lower jaws 3 and 4, respectively, the opposing faces of which are provided with semi-circular grooves for receiving the beam 1. Jaws 3 and 4 are integrally connected at one of their edges, and are spaced apart sli ht at their other edges by a slit 5.
The free edges of the jaws 3 and 4 are provided with registered perforations 6, in which is engaged a clamping bolt 7 which serves to hold said jaws in their clamped adjusted positions upon the beam 1. as clearly sho 21 in Figs. 3 and 4;
The connected edges of the jaws 3 and 4 are provided with a pair of spaced perforations 8 through which are passed the arms 9 of the ii-bolt 10, the upper ends of said arms being threaded for engagement by the nuts 11 which are adapted to hold the bight portion of the U-bolt in tight engagement with the sleeve 12. This sleeve 12, as will be clearly seen by reference to Figs. 2 and 5 of the drawing, rests in the semi-circular recess or groove 13 formed in the under face of the lower jaw 4. It will further be noted that the purpose of the U-shaped clamping plate 10 is to hold this sleeve in engagement with the lower jaw of the clamping member or connection 2 so that the sleeve may be readily and quickly adjusted relative to the jaw 4, solely by means of this U-shaped plate and consequently independently of any other adjusting member or connection, thus in loosening, adjusting and again tightening the sleeve, it is only necessary to use this U-shaped bolt.
The shovel standard 17 is fastened to the sleeve 12 by any convenient method which holds said shovel standard at a proper angle, a well known form of connection being conventionally shown in the drawing.
The sleeve 12 and shovel standard 17 form no part of the present invention.
Extending outwardly from the connected edges of the jaw 4 is a curved flange 20 which engages a portion of the sleeve 12, thus aiding in embracing the same.
From this construction it will be seen that a connection of this type has been provided which will permit the shovel standard to be adjusted longitudinally of the beam or at different angles thereto, also the distance between the beam and shovel standard may be varied independently of, and without d'1sturbing any other adjustment.
