TQ all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK E. SZE- MERE, a citizen of the United States, and

a resident of Newburgh, in the county of union suit arranged toperm'it the user to quickly convert the garment from an ordinary shirt to a union suit or vice versa, and while the garment is in position on the Wearers body.

In order to produce the desired result,

The shirt A has its body B open along the median line ofthe front so as ,to form overlapping aps C, C provided in the upper or bosom portions with the usual closing means D, such as'. buttons and buttonholes. The lower portions of the flaps G, C are provided with pairs of registering buttonholes E, E', the buttonholes on each flap being arranged one above the other. Any one pair of registering buttonholes E,E isA adapted to be engaged by a button F having a shank and heads at the ends of the shank, the button F being alsoadapted to engage one of a series of buttonholes G arranged one abone the'other along the median line ofthelbwer p option of the back of the shirt Specification of Letters Patent.

When the garment is to. be wornas an ordinaryshirt the button F is not engaged with a buttonhole G but may be used or engaged with any one pair of buttonholes E, Ein the flaps C, C to hold the lower portions'of the said flaps together. The back of the body B is provided with a split I-I along the median line and extending from'the lower edge `to within a short distance of the lowermost buttonhole G, and the sides of the shirt body are preferably split at the lower portions, which are provided with overlapping Haps I 'to completely incase the legs of the wearer. i I It will be noticed that by the arrangement described the garment can be very vquickly converted from an ordinary shirt into a union suit or vice versa, Aand the im provements canbe readily applied to shirts,

as now generally constructed and worn.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: f

R 1. A combined shirtcand union suit', comprising a shirt having`a body open along the median line of the front to form over lapping flaps, the flaps being provided at their lower portions with yregistering button holes, the back of the body at the lower portion thereof having a split along the median line and a button for fastening'the lower 'portions of said flaps together and to the vlower portion ofthe back of the body at a point in the median line of theback above the upper end of the said split.

2. A combined shirt anoldipion suitcomfprising a ,shirt having a bodympen along adapted to overlap, the flaps having regis.-

tering buttonholes at the lower portions thereof and a buttonhole in the back of the body 'in register with the said flap buttonholes, the said body being split at the lower portions of the .sides and the said body having asplit at the median line of the back,

tbe back split extending from the bottom edgeof the back to within a short distance of the back buttonhole, and a button engaging the said registering flap buttonholes/and the buttonholes in the back of the body to connect the front of the shirt directly with the back.

3. VA combined shirt and union suit, comprising a shirt having a body open along the median line of the front to form overlapping flaps, registering buttonholes in the lower portions of the saidflaps and arranged one above the other, buttonholes arranged one above theotlier along the median line of the back of the said body at the lower portion thereof and in register with 'the said iap buttonholes, and a button of soft material having a shank and two heads at the 'ends of the shank, the button being adapted to engage any one set of the flap buttonholes and the back buttonholes to fasten the back and front together at a point within the crotch of the wearer. v

4. A combinedshirt and union suit, comprising a shirt having a body open along the median line of the front to form'llaps adapted to overlap, the lower portions of thelaps having registering buttonholes and a buttonhole in the lower portion of the name to this specification in they presence of two subscribing witnesses.
