lowing is a specification.
My present invention pertains to looms and more particularly to means for raising and lowering the swivel board of ay loom and the elements carried by the same.
rlhe object of the invention is to so equip a loom as to bring about the weaving of fancy cotton fabrics such as those having spots, and this with the provision of a single controlling element in the pattern operating chain or card, as against the old method in which it is essential to employ at least two elements in the pattern-operating chain or card to operate the swivel board and the picker-stick connections, respectively.
ldith the foregoing in mind, the invention in all of its details will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view, partly in section, of so much of a loom as is necessary toillustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side detail view, on an enlarged scale, showing my novel mechanism. Fig. 3 is a view of the same, taken at a right angle to Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a side view, partly in section, showing one of the swivels of which there may be any number employed. Fig. 5 is a rear view of the same.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
The loom frame 1 may be and preferably is of the ordinary construction, and in the same .is arranged the main or crank shaft 2, and the cam shaft 3 which operates the picker stick and the shuttle. On the frame 1 is the breast beam 4, and connected through standards 5 with frame 1 is the lay' 6.
At 7 is the driving link between the lay 6 and the shaft 2, while at 3 is the reed, at 8a the harnesses, and at 9 the finished cloth, 10 10, Figs. 1, 4 and 5 being the warp threads.

On the shaft 2 is a driving gear 13, and on the shaft 3 is a driven gear 14, said driven gear being twice as vlarge in diameter as the gear 13 so as to rotate .slower than the same.
Suitably secured as by the nut and washer shaft 2 is a sleeve 22 having a flange 23 at its inner end, the sleeve eX- cepting the flange being of angular form in cross-section. Onsaid angular portion and Iabutting against the flange 23 is a disk cam 24, detachably secured to the sleeve. This cam has a recess 2 5 in Aits periphery as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 3. Slidable on the angular sleeve 22 is a disk 26, correspending in diameter with the unrecessed portion of the cam disk 24. 0n the outer side of the disk 26 is a hub 27, circumferentially grooved at 23 for the engagement ofl the bifurcated portion 29V of an arm 30 through the medium of which the disk 26 is movable on the sleeve 22 in the direction of the length thereof.

equipped with an anti-friction roller 32, disposed at its outer end. The said roller 32 is designed to bear against and rotate on the cam-disk y24 and also on the disk 26 when the latter .is moved inwardly into proper position for the purpose. As shown in Fig. 2, the disk 26 is idle, and therefore the roller 3,2 is free to follow the irregularities of the perimeter of the cam disk 24, with a view to raising and lowering the arm 31 and rocking the shaft 30 about its axis, and actuating the rods 35 and 36; the rod 35 being conneet-ed to a second arm 35u on the shaft 30, and the rod 36 being connected with the shaft 30d through a depending arm 37 on said shaft. The rod 35, Fig. 1, is connected to anoperating lever 40, and by this lever the swivel board 11 .is moved upwardly and downwardly through a connecting rod 41, this rod being arranged clear of the path of the shuttle so as not to interfere with `the movements of the same. i
The swivel board 11 is preferably mounted on the lay and the operating lever 40 is preferably connected with said swivel board in the same manner as the lever H disclosed in the patent to Borton Number 467,272 of Jan. 19, 1892.

In lieu of placing the cam disk 24 on the shaft 2,l said disk and its companion parts may be arranged on the slower shaft to produce the result desired, in which event because of the comparative slowness of the shaft 3 the cam disk 24 would be provided lwith two peripheral recesses like the recess 25, said recesses 'being opposite each other j with their ends equi-distant.
It is to be understood that my invention resides in the means best shown in Figs. 2 and 3 for putting the swivel board and its appurtenances into and out of operation, and for this reason I have deemed it unnecessary to illustrate .in detail the conventional parts of the loom.
I-Iaving described my invention, what I claim anddesire to secure by Letters-Patent,
ll. In a loom, the combination of one of the working shafts of a loom, a cam disk fast thereon and having a recessed periphery, a disk movable laterally on the shaft, at one side of the cam disk, and having a regular circular periphery, means for moving-the last-named disk toward and from the cam-disk, and a lever having connections for moving a swived board; said lever being movable by the cam-disk when the second-named disk is out of engagement with the lever, and being held against movement by the cam-disk when the second-named disk is positioned close to the cam-disk and is in engagement with the lever.
2. In a loom, the combination of one of the working shafts of a loom, a cam disk fast thereon and having a recessed periphery, a disk movable laterally on the shaft, at one side of the cam disk, and having a regular circular periphery and also having a circumferentially grooved portion, a bifurcated arm straddling said grooved portion and adapted when actuated to move the second-named disk laterally, and a lever havin@ connections for moving a swivel board; said lever being disposed at right angles to the disks and being provided with an antifriction roller for the engagement of the disks, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
