FRANK MARCAUBELE, or rnovrnnn'cn, :anonn IsLAivn.
CLEARER FOR DRAWING-FRAMES.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK MARGAURELE,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clearers for Drawing-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clearers for drawing frames, and the primary object of the invention is to provide improved means for effecting cleaning or clearing of the rolls, which means is of simplified and economical structure, as compared with prior like devices, and which can be easily and quickly applied to and removed from the rolls.
Further, the invention aims to provide a clearer which is supported in a novel manner and is positioned so as to not only not require alteration in the usual structure of drawing roll frame, but which is located in a protected position and is out of the way, so to speak.
Other and further objects will be later herein set forth and manifested in the course of the following specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view of a draw head showing the present invention applied thereto, and also in section. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary rear'side elevation. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a clearer is employed which consists of a substantially rectangular open metal frame 1, which frame has its ends 2, formed with apertures 3 to receive cords or leather straps 4' the latter being passed over the top of the reduced throat T of the lower drawing roll R. The opening of the frame is of a size to receive and permit the drawing roll to project down therethrough as depicted in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and the sides of the frame are formed in a manner now to be described so as to most effectively clear or clean the rolls.
The front side 4 of the frame is curved in cross-section and is faced with cloth 6 so that this side closely and conformably fits the outer roll. The rear or inner side 5 of the frame is also covered by the cloth facing or lining 6, and extends across the space between the outer and the adjacent roll and engages the latter, or more properly speaking has wiping contact with the adjacent Specification of Letters Patent. t t 24, 1915,

roll. It will be apparent from Fig. 1 of the drawings, that the frame thus wipingly engages the side of the outer roll and the bottom of the adjacent roll and since the strap 4: draws up on the frame at points between the frame sides, it will be evident that the sides will be uniformly and evenly brought to engage the two rolls, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. It will also be seen that the edge 5 of the side 5 engages the outer roll while the other edge of the side 5 engages the adjacent roll.
It will be further seen that by drawing the leather straps 4 taut, as desired by means of a weight or spring, that varying pressures may be exerted on the clearer to cause the same to engage the rolls with varying pressure. Since the cloth contacts or wipingly engages or contacts with both of the adjacent rolls, and engages the outer roll on opposite sides thereof, lint will be effectually prevented from being carried by the yarn and the formation of knots or imperfections in the yarn is prevented.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent;
1. In combination with the rolls of a draw box, a clearer consisting of a frame having an opening which receives a roll therethrough so that the longitudinal sides which define the sides of the opening will engage opposite sides of the roll, one of the sides of the frame being concave to engage the said roll, and the other side of the frame extending across the space between said roll and the adjacent roll and having wiping contact with the adjacent roll on the lower arc of the latter, a cloth facing for the frame, and straps connected to the ends of thizl frame and engaged over the first named ro 2. In combination with the rolls of a draw box, an open frame receiving one of the rolls, and having a part which extends downwardly therefrom at an angle and wipingly engages the adjacent roll.
3. In combination with the rolls of a draw box, a'frame formed to engage two opposite sides and above the bottom of one roll and beneath the adjacent roll.
4. A clearer having a central horizontal part formed with an opening through which a roll is adapted to project and having a side which engages the side of said roll and having a second side which engages the 0punder-the zidjaeent roll.
posite side of-said 1 011 and the adjacent side of the adjacent roll.
:5. In combination with the r0113 of draw box, a, clearer composed qf an pen frame one side of' which" extends'upwardly and. engages a r011, Which .lgtteriis received inthe opening of the frame, and
the other side of the frame extending dawnwardly and havlng Wiping contact With and lInL combination .Wi-th the rolls" of a flofnie .t ithi maten imyrbepghteiee efio receive a roll to ztllowthe latter to project FRANK MARGAURE E.
