To all whom, it may concern:
.Be it known that I, HENRY P. BENus, a citizen of the United States, residing at .Kansas City, .in the county of Wyandotte and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in- Sash-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates tosash locks, and particularly .to looks for sashes of coaches, such as railway. cars; andit has for its object the provision of a fastener of this'character wherein the catch is mounted and conbars are connected together.

The fastener comprises an attaching member 1 which is provided with right angularly extending branches 2 and 3, each having formed therein openings 4 for the reception of fastening screws whereby'the device may be properly connected with two bars of the sash at one corner of the latter and at points beside the joint where the This construction is desirable in that the attaching member forms a brace to prevent the bars of the sash at the corner from separating from each other. ' The angle of the detent 13 with relation to the supporting pin of the catch is such that the detent is disposed wholly to one side of the. vertical centerof said supporting pin. This construction is necessary in order that the detent adjacentits connection with the supporting pin is brought into mutual contact with the sustaining shoulder ll'ofthe bosslO, thus bringing the strain when the catch is supported upon the keeper to the shoulder and preventing an undue appllcation of the strain to the supporting pin of the catch. The detent 13 is provided with a longitudinally curved inner surface 20, which is spaced froman adjacent curved inner surface 22 of the extension 14 so as to define therewith a slot 23 for the reception of a cam arm 24: of a releasing or retracting lever 25. The lever 25 is projected through the slot 7 in the wall 6 of the casing 5 and is terminally provided with a relatively broad manipulating surface 26 which is superimposed with relation to a finger grip 27 which forms an integral part of the branch 2 of the attaching member 1. The lever also has a stop projection on its upper side, spaced from the inner end of the cam arm 24 and which engages the outer end of the branch 15 of the detent when said detent is in engaged position, the spring 17 acting to .move the detent to engaged position and causing the branch to exert camming action on the arm 24 and thereby turn the lever and raise its free end as shown in Fig. 2.
The application of the fastener to the sash as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 is such that when the sash is adjusted to an open position, the detent 13 will be advanced into effective engagement with the keeper 28 on the stop strip of the window casing,the surface 19 at the bottom of the detent being in flat horizontal contact with the corresponding surfaceof the keeper 28. Through this construction it is evident that the detent 13 must be adjusted to a full retracted position toeiiect proper retracted position of the catch the surface 26 015 the retracting lever is pushed downwardly so as to cause the detent of the lever to engage against the surface 22 of the catch, moving the latter to .a position Where the surface 19 of the catch:
