and useful Improvements in Linemens Climbers, of which the following is a speci-- fication. v

- This invention relates to llnemens climbers and refers particularly to a foot restwhich is associated therewith.

An object of this invention is to associate with the ordinary linemens climbers a foot rest which is engaged to the sole of'the shoe for distributing the pressure ofthe body on all parts of the foot and noton the instep only, as has heretofore been the case.

Another object of this invention is the construction of an elastic element which is formed on the foot rest so as to hold the climber in engagement with said foot rest, and at the same time will allow for the ready detachment of the same. 7

Other objects as well'as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following descriptiontaken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claimforming a part of this specification. 1

Referring to the drawings :-Figure 1 is an elevation of the device constructed in accordance with my invention illustrating the application thereof; Fig. 2 is an elevation of the climber, the foot rest being shown in transverse section; Fig. 3is a perspective view of the foot rest; and Fig. ,4 is a longitudinal sectional view of thesame.

I In the drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, the climber bar is indicated by the numeral 5 and has formed thereon adjacent the lower end thereof, an ordinary spur 6. Formed on the upper extremity of the climber bar 5 is a loop 7 which is adapted for engagement with the strap 8 which secures the climber to the leg of the lineman. The" lower end of the climber 5 below the spur 6, is turned outwardly and at right angles to the body and upwardly in parallelism thereto so as to provide a hook shaft member 9 on the lower end more fully hereinafter described.

Conforming to the configuration of the ordinary shoe, is a footrest 10 which in the present instance comprises a forward portion 11 adaptedfor' engagement withthe sole of the shoe and a rearward offset portion 12 for engagement with the heel of the shoe. By offsetting the rear end l2 it will be seen thatga shoulder 13 is provided to which is secured an'elastic element or foot spring 14 which engages the lower face of the hook shaped portion 9 of the climber The free end of the spring 14 is curved slightly inwardly toward the portion 11 of the 'foot rest so as to insure the positive holding of the climber therein, and prevent the accidental displacement of the same with .respect thereto. Adjacent the terminal of the hook shaped member 9 are slots 15 which are engaged by ankle straps 16, the straps 16 extending around the ankle and has the approximate ends thereof secured by a buckle or any'other suitable means.

In operation the foot of the lineman is placed on the upper face of the foot rest 10, the ankle straps 16 being secured around the ankle and the strap 18 engaged around the leg, usually below the knee. It will be seen from the above that when the spurs 6 are engaged in a pole or the like, that the weight of the body will be equally distributed on all parts of the foot in view of the peculiar formation of foot rest, which has heretofore been fully described.

It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comprehend only the general and preferred em-' what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A linemans climber in combination with a leg-engaging bar, a foot support, having one end thereof offset to provide a heel-engaging portion, and a spring carried by the heel of said foot support for detachably holding said support to said bar.
