To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRYK SIERZBNSKI, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Iron River, in the county of Iron and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Bags, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in feed bags.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a feed bag adapted to be readily positioned and adjustable over the head of an animal for providing a readily accessible container for the feed of the animal while eating and at the same time preventing any waste of the food.

A further object is to provide a sanitary feed bag having adjustable supporting straps for suspending the same from the neck of an animal during the feeding operation and being provided with a feed compartment which together with the sides of the bag are perforated for ventilation and breathing purposes.

A still further object is to provide a supported feed bag having double foraminous walls and a metallic bottom outer wall having-means of access to the space between the afore-mentioned walls.

With these general objects in view and others that will appear asthe nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and set forth in the appended claims. 7

In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like-designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the bag portion of the device, one of the supporting straps being broken away. Flg. 2 is a side elevation thereof with the straps broken away, and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken upon line IIIIII of Fig. 1.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, the feed bag consists of the outer and inner foraminous walls 10 and 11 respectively spaced apart and having a feed containing bottom basin member 12, the outer and inner walls 13 and 1A of which are secured to the lower ends and constituting continuations of the afore-mentioned foraminous Walls. inner basin wall 11 has a metallic bottom closure 15 in the form of a circular disk and the same is secured by rivets 16 in flat engagement with asimilar bottom disk 17 of greater diameter, which disk 17 is secured at its periphery to the lower edge of the outer basin wall 18. Sustaining bands 18 are positioned inwardly of the said foraminous walls, of the bag and are connected at their lower ends to a rigid hook or ring 19 at the top of the basin member 12 and which is fixedly spaced on an outwardly circumferentially mounted ring 20 at the top of the outer basin wall 13, spacing blocks 21 being positioned between the two rings 19 and 20.

A flexible annular band 22 surrounds the top of the foraminous bag portion interiorly and is attached to the upper ends of the bands 18, while a rope collar 23 is arranged exterlorly of the said band and secured thereto, being attached to the upper end of the foraminous outer wall 10.

The outer wall 13 of the basin is provided with an inwardly positioned annular strengthening spring 241, which retains the basin upright, while both the outer and inner walls of the basin have oppositely positioned alining foraminous portions 25 for allowing free Ventilation to-the basin as well as affording greater facility for breathing.

A hinged flap 26 is attached to the outer wall of the basin for covering an opening 27 therein and by means of which access is had to a space between the outer and inner walls of the device for the purpose of re moving any food dust or other matter that may sift into the same, while retaining catches 38 are provided for the said flap.

A flexible apron 28 is secured to the upper end of the foraminous bag portion and has a shirring string 29 running therearound for contracting the apron above the feed bag when desired, while a side slit 30 is provided in the apron, the sides of which are connected by the said shirring string. A similar slit 31 is provided through the foraminous walls of the bag being a continuation of the apron slit 30 and a similar shirring string 32 is provided therefor.

It being designed to position the bag sus pended from the head of an animal for placing the animals mouth within the bag basin, adjustable supporting straps are provided consisting of a front strap 33 shiftably secured to a spanning side strap 31 as well as an encircling neck strap 35. The neck strap shiftably passes through a loop 36 secured at the rear side of the band 22, and it will be readily seen that by the employment of suitable buckles 37 for the straps that the same are adapted for removably and adjustably supporting the feed bag upon the animals head.

The complete operation of the device will be apparent from this detailed description. The grain or food for the animal is positioned in the basin portion of the bag and the strapsadjusted upon the animals head for conveniently supporting the bag with the animals mouth positioned therein. Fhe foraminous portions of the bag and basin afford ready ventilation and breathing means for the animal, while the metallic bottom of the basin prevents injury to the same when contacted with the ground during the eating operation. The separate walls as well as the ventilating features of the device prevent any decaying of the food particles that may remain within the bag, while the shirring string 29 may be employed for more closely holding the apron around the animals nose for preventing'any loss of material which might escape from the top. of the bag.

While the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What I claim as new is 2- 1. A feed bag comprising separate foraminous walls, a double walled basin secured to the said foraminous walls, fiat metal bottoms secured together and provided for the separate walls of the basin, an encircling apron secured to the upper edge of the foraminous walls, adjustable supporting straps attached to the top of the said foraminous walls, and a retaining spring for said basin of the said inner basin wall, longitudinally extending supporting bands between the said ring and retaining band, an outer foramlnous wall having its upper end secured to said retaining band and spaced from the inner fora-minous wall, a ring at the lower end of the said outer foraminous wall, com centric and outwardly POSIlZlOIIGd WltlI respect to said first-named ring, spacing blocks between the said rings, an: outer basin wall secured to the said outer ring, a metallic bottom for the said outer basin wall, the said outer basin wall provided with anopening therethirough, a cl'osingtlap: for the said opening, an extended flexible apron secured to the said fora-minous walls at their point of attachment to the said retaining band, the said fora-minous walls and apron having alining slits, shirring strings for the said apron and slits, and adjustable supporting straps secured to the said retaining band.
