Improvements in Combined Closure-Caps and Styptic-Holders, of which the follow ing is a specification.

My invention relates to combined closurecaps and styptic holders of a kind suitable:

for use in connection with shaving outfits and the like, my more particular purpose being to provide a cap, serving as a closure member for a soap box or analogous con, tamer, and arranged to serve as a holderv for a button or tabloid of styptic material.

Reference is made to the accompanying drawings forming a part ofthis specification, and in which like letters indicate like parts.

A cap 7 serves as a closure member for a soap box, of the kind used for holding shaving soap. The cap has a general cup-l ke form, and is provided with an edge portion 8 for encircling the top edge of the soap box, which is shown at 8. While in this instance, the edge portion 8 is shown as plain, it should be understood that the cap may be used in connection with any type of soap box, and to this end may be so formed as to be secured in position by turning, or it may be hinged or secured by squeezing, or in any other appropriate manner. The cap 7 is further provided with a slot 9 having a general arcuate form and extending directly through the cylindrical wall of the cap. This slot is bounded on one side by a lip 10, also of arcuate form, this lip being merely an integral portion of the cap, bent obliquely inward as indicated more particularly in Figs. 4 and 5,.

The operator by grasping the arcuaterim 13 and drawing the slide radially outward, can disengage the slide from the styptic button, and by turning the cap into the position indicated in Fig. 5, the button may be dropped out of the cap.

The slide 11 being inserted through the slot 9 is disposed at the outer limit of its travel, as indicated in Fig. 5, and the styptic button 15 is next placed within the cap, after which the slide is pushed radially inward, as indicated in Fig. 1, and also as indicated by full lines in Fig. 4E. The lip 10, by bearing against the slide 11, causes.

this slide, and especially the inner or free end thereof, to press upon the styptic button l5, thus holding the latter firmly in position. The cap may now be used after the manner of any other cap, as a closure member for the soap box. It may be taken off and replaced as often as desired, the fact that it carries the styptic button being a matter causing no inconvenience. When it is desired to use the styptic button, the operator grasps the rim 13 and pulls the slide outwardly to the limit of its travel, so that the styptic button may be taken out, as indicated in Fig. 5. It is afterward replaced as above described. The pressure of the lip 10 normally causes the slide to exert sufficient tension against the styptic button to prevent the latter from working loose. If, however, the styptic button, because of its continued use, becomes worn off thin, the slide 11 may be bent as indicated by dotted lines at 14, and thus adapted to exert its pressure upon the styptic button notwithstanding the thinness thereof. In order to bend the slide, it is drawn outwardly for about half its length, and is then pressed or bent slightly upward, by hand. In this manner the slide is rendered adaptable for use with the styptic button, as the latter gradually grows thin from use.

Having thus described my invention, secure by what I claim as new and desire to Letters Patent is as follows:

1. A combined closure cap and styptic holder comprising a flanged cap having a slot in its flange, and a slide extending through the said slot into the cap and forming with the closed end of the said cap a compartment for holding a styptic button.

2. As an article of manufacture, a hollow cap provided with a slot and with a lip par tially bounding said liquely inward therefrom, and a slide extendin through said slot and en aging said lip, sai d tegral with it and of suitable form to fit against the adjacent peripheral surface of said cap.

8. A combined closure cap and stypt-ic holder comprising a hollow cap having a general cup-like form and provided with a slot and wlth a lip partially bounding said slot and extending obliquely inward from the wall of said cap, and a slide having sub stantially the form of a sector and extending radially into said slot, said slide being further provided with a rim disposed outside of said slot and adapted to be grasped by hand.
