Application led March 20, 1191-5. Serial No. 15,718.
My invention relates to catamenial appli-A ances and particularly to a protective covlo ering adapted to carry an absorbent napkin -land to protect the clothing of the wearer from stains.
ln the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an illustrative embodi- 15 ment of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same showing an absorbent napkin in position. p
The appliance, as illustrated, comprises a supporting tape 5 adapted to extend around |20.. the waist above the thighs. The free ends of this tape are passed through buckles 6 and 7' carried by looped tabs 8 and 9 sewed down by cross strips 10 and 11 at the opposite upper corners and on the outer face of the triangular fabric' shield 12 at the front At the lower corner of' of .the appliance. this shield and also on the outer face thereof a cross strip 13 secures the upper end of .a
looped tab 14: iii-which the safety pin 15 t0 hangs horizontally. A fabric shield 16 stitched to the tape 5 at the back of the appliance carries on its inner face a'looped tab 17 in which also hangs horizontallya safety pin 18. Between these two safety pins and by means thereof an `absorbent napkin 19 of any type may be suspended from the tape. Beneath this napkin extends the protector W20 comprising a sheet of rubberlzed cloth or the like constricted at the front but eo widening toward the rear, at which point it is continued upward over the buttocks by a gauze or mesh section 21 secured at its' upper edge to the tape4 5. Reinforcingbands 22 extend from therubberized sheet 20 to the t5 tape 5 at suitable intervals to relieve the mesh from strain. The protector and gauze section are tailored to t the thighs snugly without wrinkling. At the front of the protector, a short tab 23 carries a button fastener 24 which engages any one of the outwardly faced studs 25 riveted 'to a tape 26 which hangs, down outside the shield 12.
The triangular shield 12 with the three points of attachment for the ends of the tp 5 and the lfront of the napkin 19 distributes the strain of the tightly drawn tape and is easier on the wearer as well as being Hatter and therefore less likely to wrinkle the clothmg than the ordinary method of tying the ends ofthe tape into a knot. The location of the safety pin 15 on the outer face of this shield protects the wearer against contact with the metal of the pin. The pin 18 must be carried upon the inner face ofthe shield 16 to be accessible, but this is no objection since the end of the napkin 17 overlies it.
-The studs 25 on tape 26 permit the adjustment of the protector 20 to any desired de gree of snugness beneath the napkin 19. Theattachment of the tape 26 at the top of the shield 12 affords room for the free end of the napkin held bythe pin 15, whileithe shield and napkin end together protect vthe body from vall the ymetal fasteners at the front of the device. Gbviously the front end of the-shield and napkin may be readily tem- .may be made in 'various sizes, the tapes 5 and 26 aford means for a considerable takeup or let out to lit it to the wearer.
l claim as my invention 1. A catamenial appliance comprising a suspension tape, a protector permanently secured at the rear thereto, an independent triangular shield at the front of the appliance, means at the opposite upper corners of said shield for separately fastening the ends of said tape thereto, and means for securing at the lower corner of said shield the front end of an absorbent napkin, together with a ta e secured to the upper portion of said shie d als and overlying the outer face thereof, for enmeans at the lower portion of said shield for detachably engaging the front .end of. an. absorbent'napkin, a tape depending' from theupper portion of sald shield, overlylng theouter face thereof and having adjustable means fox detachably eng g th'elfront name to thisspeecation in the resece of Iend of said protector, in corggation with a ytwo ubscri P shield at thel hack of said appliance, lying JACOB REBEL.
