Description

S. A. BULLOCK.
TRUCK.
APPLICATION FILED IAII.2I, I9I5.
Patented J une 15, 1915.
STATE@ or neinanntrnrn,
implication filed January 2l, l.
' To all whom concern "nients in trucks used under railway cars, .particularly or the electric type.
rlhe ob"ect of my invention is to simplify the construction of the truck at the pedestals, and to provide means for rigidly attaching the gibs inposition. This object I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l, is a side view of rny improved truck; Fig. 2, is a sectional view on the line aa, Fig. l; Fig. 3, is a detached view of the two gibs; and Fig. 4, is a modiication of the invention, showing the cap plate secured directly to the pedestal and tie bar.
. ln the drawings l have shown only those portions of the truck which relate particularly to my invention.
l is the main longitudinal har of the side frame vof the truck.
2, 2 are the transonis.
3, 3 are the pedestals secured to the main longitudinal/bar. "flach pedestal is bent, as shown, andhas upper extensions 4 which are secured to the main bar by bolts 5. The lower ends 5 of the outer pedestals are bent, as shown, and are shorter than the lower portions 'i' of the inner pedestals, which are also bent. A; tie bar 8 extends from one inner pedestal to the other, as shown.
9, 9 are cap plates which extend across the opening between the pedestals, and the outer end of each cap plate is turned up, forming a flange l0 which bears against the end of the portion t of the outer pedestal, and there eti rnunsrmfr Serial lo. 3,565.
the tie bar and the portion 7 of the pedestal, so that these parts will be held together by the bolts even when the nuts are removed.
13 and 14 are the gibs, which are flanged as shown in Fig. 3 and extend on each side o f the pedestals. The gib 13 has a short right angular extension 15 on its lower end which is perforated, and this portion extends between the lower portion of the pedestal 6 and the cap plate 9, the bolt 1l passing through the perforation therein. Thus the gib is held firmly in position against its' pedestal and is free at its upper end in the present instance, so that it is free to expand and contract. The gib 14 has an extension 16 of greater length than the extension l5 and has two perforations, and this portion 1G extends between the portion 7 of the pcd* estal and the oep plate 9 and the two bolts l2 pass through the perforations. The gib is also free at the top sothat it can readily expand.
ln Fig. 4, is illustrated a modification of the invention, in which the right angled extensions of the flanges of the gibs 13a and 14a are fastened. between the upper end of the pedestals and the main longitudinal bar 1 of the frame, and the cap plate 9, in this instance, bears directly against the under side of the pedestals. Two bolts l2a secure the pedestal, lower tie rod, and cap plate firmly together.
'In some instances the gibs may be secured both at the top and bottom.
l. The combination in atruck, of two pedestals havingright angled extensions, the
extension of the inner pedestal being of a` greater length than the extension of the outer pedestal; flanged gibs mounted on each pedestal and having portions located under the extensions ofthe pedestals; a cap plate having a flange at'one end bearing against the endV of the extension of the outer pedestal; and bolts securing the' cap plate to the pedestals and securing the gibs in position.
2. The combination in a trucli, of pedestals having rightrangled extensions, the eX- tensions of the inner pedestals being 'of greater length than those of the outer pedestals; gibs having angular portions eX- tending under the pedestals; a cap plate for In testimony whereof, I have signed my `each pair of pedestals, the outer end ofeaoh name to this specification, in the presence of cap plate being turned up to bear against two subscribin witnesses.
the end of the extension of the outei` pedes- AMUEL A. BULLOCK. V5 tol; ya tie bar connecting the two pedestals; Witnesses:
