CONTROLLER CAM DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 16. 1911.

SYLVANWI To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that I, Cmnrnn'r F. 8mm, a citizen of the UnitedSta-tes, residing at Schenectady, in the county-Of Schenectady and State of New York, have invented new and usual Improvementsin' Controller-Cam .I)cvices,of which the following is a specification. 1
- This invention relates to means for supplying fluid pressure intermittently or periodically. for any suitable purpose where it is desired to utilize the fiuid under pressure in a series of blasts of greater or less frequency and duration, and has for its object to provide an improved lever'devioe for controlling the intensity of the blast or for cutting off the same altogther.
\Vhile my improvement is adapted for a variety of uses, it is particularly designed to be employed'in connection with a mechanical stoker for forcing the fuel into the firebox, as shown and described in my prior pending application Ser. No. 565,579, filed June 7, 1910. In this prior construction, the admission of fluid under pressure to the fuel (listributer nozzlesis controlled by a .valve operated by a pivoted lever one end of pon the pe riphery of a cain-diskupon which the cam members are pivoted and adapted to be turned to different positions to extend vthe difl'erent cam surfaces beyond the periphery of the disk to engage the roller and actuate the valve. Y I
According to 'my present improvement,
the connection between thevalve lever and valve may have adjustable meansfor varying the extent-of opening of the valve, and the intensity of the blast, or for disconnecting the same altogether when it is desired to throw thedevice out of o ration.
Iuthe accompanying rawing, the figure is a front elevation of my improved device, the valve being shown in'section.
As setforth in my prior application, the valve for controlling the supply or flow of the fluid under pressure comprises a casing, 32, containing a valve proper, 31, with stem, 34. and a 3 )ring, 33, normally holding the valve clo on its seat, the casing having a bracket arm, 37, to which is pivoted the lever 36 ada ted to operate the valve stem and at the. ot er end carrying a roller which bears against the cam disk.
cou'rlioma ceni: Davies Specification or Letters Patent. Application mean -m 16, mm; was. suave.
As shown inthe drawin a cam disk, -35,-
provided' with a plurality 0 "adjustable cam members, 40, having handles, 42, movable in slots, 50, is employed for imparting movement to the lever, but" any'other'suitable means forosoillating said lever-may be-used, if referred: v 1
. en the cams are adjusted to give any desired flow of fluid the device may be cut out of operation at any instant, if necessary, by merely sliding the movablelatch, 38, on the' lever, 36, fromhif'dpmfi 1 tion, as shown, in which it engages the valve stem 34, to its inoperative position, as indicated in dotted lines. The valve then remains closed althou h the cams may continue to actuate the Iever. This avoids the necessity of disturbing the adjustment of the cams, when for any reason it is desired to temporarily cut the device out of operation.
The latch may also be provided with stops of different lengths adapted to effect different degrees of opening of the valve, ,as ixidi- 1 cated in the figure, whereby the intensity of the fluid blasts for any given adjustment of cams may be readily varied,-as desired, by merely shifting the latch to one or another of its difl'erent o erative positions in which Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1 In a controller cam device, the combination with a valve for controllin the supply of fluid pressure and a lever or actuating the same, of a cam disk having cam members for operating said lever, and an adjustable latch mounted on the lever for engaging or disengaging the valve connection.
2- In a controller cam device, the combination with a valve for controlling the flow of fluid, a lever for actuating the same, and a continuously operating cam for actuating mainta ner 1, 191.5;
said lever, of a manually adjustable means for temporarily disenga ing the connection between said lever and t e valve.
3. In a controller cam device, the combination with a valve for controlling the flow of fluid, a lever for actuating the same, and a continuously operating cam for actuating said lever, of manually operated means for adjusting the connection between the lever and valve for varying the intensity of the fluid blasts.
4. In a controller cam device, the combination with a valve for controlling the flow of fluid, a lever for actuating the same, and a continuously operating cam for actuating said lever, of a latch device between said lever and valve for adjusting the extent of valve opening or for disengaging the connection.
5. In a controller cam device, the combination with a valve for controlling the flow of fluid, a lever for actuating the same, and a continuously operating cam for actuating said lever, of an adjustable latch device mounted on said lever and having stops of difl'erent lengths for engaging the valve.
6. The combination of a valve for controlling a fluid su ply and having a projecting stem, a lever or opening said valve, and an adjustable contact member carried by the lever for engaging said valve stem.
7. The combination of a valve for controlling a fluid supply and having a projecting stem, a lever for opening said valve, means for oscillating said lever, and an adjustable contact member carried by the lever and having sto s of different lengths for engaging said va ve stem.
