Description

T w. mm, TYPE WRITING MACHINE. "Pl-IMHO" Ill-ID "Iv". HIM
Patented May 18, 1915.
"(I NOIIII PI'TII' R1. PNOYD-LIFNO, 'IININGM. I C
'to protect the'ribbon' fromlf thus formed, and to this end a shield is located in a position overhanging the space by providing a grooved recess in the cup 9 adapted to be engaged by a rin ll shown in detail view Fi 2. This ring, eing preferably split an of resilient material, snaps firmly into place and shields or protects t is opening in the manner shown,-and ma be removed by pointed instrument when it move the spool for any reason, after first removin a ribbon spoolcover 12 suitably connecte with the spjmdle 1 for the purpose of protecting the rib on and preventin the is desired same from riding up over the edge 0 the cup .instead of passing through a slot 13 provided therefor to the printing point.
It is thus seen that this invention provides for a simple ractical device attaining, among others, is e objects and advantages above set forth, and adapted to hold t e ribbon in place as the same is wound or unwound a on the spool, and prevent the same from fal lag between the spool and the cupand becoming entangled with the driving mechanism for thespool therebeneath.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely diiierent embodiments of t is invention could be made without departin from the scope thereof, it is intended t at all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawingsshall be interpreted as il ustrative and'not ina limiting sense. I
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a ribbon mounting, in combination, rotatable means adapted to support a'"ribbon, a wall extendin opposite aportion of said means adapts to confine the ribbon and gormit rotation of said means, and a j iar adapted positively to rotectthe' ribon from becoming dis ose between said means and said wallw ilesaid means roates.
2. In a ribbon mountinggin combination, rotatable means adapted" support a ribbon a wall extending opposite a ortion of sai moans adapted to confine't e ribbon and permit rotation of said means, and moans ada ted to guard'said ribbon from becoming isposed between said rotatable means and said wall 'and'simultaneoiisly tocure said member against displacement with respecttosaid cup. i
8. In a ribbon mounting in combination a fixed circumferential wa l, means adapted to support a ribbon'com risin L a member disposed for rotation means comprising an arcuatd guard detachably secured to said wall ado ted positively beco' ming disthe aid of a knife or other s arp to rev space a ribbonfa driving s in wit in said wall, and
posed between saidmeinber and said wa k while said member rotates.
4; In a ribbon mountin in combination, a fixed circumferential wa 1,.means adapted to support-a ribbon com rising a member disposed for rotation wit in said wall, and meanscomprising an arcuate uncontinuous nerd-adapted to protect the ribbon from j coming disposed between said member andsaid wall while said member rotates.
5.- In a ribbon mounting, in combination, a ribbon oup, means comprising a member disposed for rotation in said cup adapted to support a ribbon, and means comprising an arcuate' iard detachably secured to said cup adapts 'to' ardsaid ribbonfrom becoming dispose between said member and the inner peripheral wall of said cup and simultaneously secure said member against displacement with respect to said cup.
6. In a ribbonmounting, in combination, a ribbon, a ribbon cup having an annular recess, a ribbon s 001 within said cup and resilient means a opted to be sprung into 'said recess 'to protect the space between venting the ribbon i rom slipping therebetween. I
8. In a ribbon mounting, in combination, a. ribbon, a'ribbon' cu a rotatable ribbon reeltherein, and annu ar means mounted on said cup adapted to protect the intervening between the cup and reel for preventing-the ribbon fromfalling between adjacent arts of said cup andreol.
i). an ribbon mountin in combination, lo a ribbon cup, a ribbon spool onsai spindle and adapted to be driven thereby, a; supporting flan e on said spool'rotating-within said cup, an, annular'meansen'ibedded in the inner side of said cup adapted to coverthe space between 'thefcu and flange;
n aribbon mountin in combination a ribbon, a driving spind o, a cup, a spool loosely mounted on said s indie within said cup; means for operative y connecting said spool with saidspindle, 'a removable cover llfi .wou'n'd, said cup havin a recess, and a ring adapted to engage sai recess and protect the space between the said flange and cup for. reventing the ribbon from slipping there tween.
1 11}, In a. ribbon mountin in combination a ribbon, adriving spind e, a' cup, a spool loosely mounted on said indle within said tween the said flange and cup for preventing cup, menne for operative y connecting said the ribbon from ehppin therebetween. 1o spool with said 8 indle, a. removable cover In testimony whereof eilix my signature, for said spool e on rotatable with said in the presence of two witnesses.
