Description
H. B. BAUCOM.
PLOW STOCK SHIELD.
APPLICATION MEDIUM-13.1913. RENEWED NOV. 23, 1914.
Patented May 4, 1915.
w i lmeooeo wrQud HENRY B. BAUCOM, OF MARSHVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA.
PLOW-STOCK SHIELD.
Application filed June 3, 1913, Serial No. 771,541.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY B. BAUGOM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marshville, in the county of Union, State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Stock Shields; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to shields, and more particularly to plow stock shields.
An object of the invention is to provide a shield for the lower end or foot of a plow stock.
Another object is to provide a shield of this character which will inclose and protect the foot of a plow stock, said shield being specially adapted for wooden plow stocks.
Another object is to provide a shield of this character formed in one piece and adapted for snug engagement over the foot of the stock.
With this and other objects in view my invention will be more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which show a preferred embodiment of my device and then specifically pointed out in the claims which are attached to and form a part of this application.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of a plow of conventional form with my improved shield applied to the foot of the stock. Fig. 2 is a front view thereof, the plow beam being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a rear View. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the shield removed.
Referring more specifically to the drawings in which similar reference characters represent corresponding parts throughout, 10 designates in general my improved shield which incloses the foot or lower end of the plow stock or standard 11. The shield 10 is preferably formed of one piece of metal or other suitable material and corresponds in form to the shape of the foot.
The shield comprises a bottom portion 12, side portions 13, and a front portion 14. The bottom portion 12 fits the bottom por- Specification of Letters Patent.

tion of the foot, while the side portions 13, and the front portion 14 engage with the sides and front respectively of said foot.
The shield is held in position by screws 15 or other suitable securing means extending through the front portion 14 and into the foot as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The front portion 14 is provided near its upper edge with a bolt opening 16 to accommodate the bolt 17 secured through the foot and adapted to receive a plow point in the usual and well known manner as will be clearly apparent. It will be understood that the opening 16 registers with the opening 18 in the foot and through which the bolt 17 is positioned.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that I have provided a shield of extremely simple construction, and which will protect the foot of a plow stock and prevent wear thereof. It will therefore be evident that this shield may be readily and cheaply manufactured and applied to the ordinary form of plow stock now in general use without altering the construction of the same.
What is claimed. is
1. The combination with a standard of a ground engaging shoe adapted to fit over the standard, a plow point bearing against the front wall of the shoe, said wall conforming to the contour of the body portion of the plow point, and means for securing the shoe and point to each other and to the standard.
2. In a plow, the combination with a standard, of a removable ground engaging shield fitting on the foot of the standard and consisting of a one piece member comprising a fiat bottom, side members having their lower forward ends converging outwardly, a concaved front member co-acting with the converging side members and bottom member to form a pocket to receive the standard, and fastening means for securing a plow point to the shield and the shield to the standard.
In testimony whereof, I aifix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
