Description

dalla iaic @anni @film Letters Patent No. 113,678, dated -April 11, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT lN SLATE-FRAMES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lume.`
To all whom it may concern Beit known rthat we, PETER LUGENBELL and WIL- LIAM A. FORD, of Greensburg, in the county of Decatur and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Slate-Bands; and we do do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of my band, formed by notching the ordinary rubber tubing.
Figure-2 is a view of the elbow-baud manufactured in form.
Figure 3 is a front View of the slate.
Figure 4 is a cross-section ofthe same.
Our invention relates to means for preventing the noise and disturbance caused by the clattering of slateframes on the desks of schools; and
It consists in the construction and novel arrangement of rubber bands ortnbing, encirclingr the wooden frame at the corners, and secured by tbe elasticity of the rubber alone. Y
The letterA ofthe drawing designates an ordinary slate;
B represents'its frame; and
C designates the rubber band which encrcles the frame at each corner.
This band may be formed from rubber tubing of suitable size by cutting therein a. V-shaped notch, the edges of which are brought together in forming the the elbow; or the band may be manufactured with the required angle, as shown at iig. 2 of the drawing.'
When the slate is in the frame the inner side of the band is pressed into the groove of the slate-trame, thereby not only keeping the band securely xed at the corner, but also serving an excellent purpose iu tightening the frame at the joints, preventing the escape of the fastening-pins, and obviating the movement of the slate in its grooves.
Sometimes the slatefframe is cut away at each corner ou the inside, and the depth of the re-entering angle made by the band thereby diminished.
What we claim as our invention, and desire t-o secure by Letters Patent, is--.
The tubular elboiwband C for binding slate-frames at the corners, substantially as specilied.
In testimony that we claim tbe above we have bereuuto subscribed our names in the presen-ce of two witnesses.
PETER LUGENBELL. WVIIiLIAM A; FORD.
Vitnesses:
CHRIS. SHANE, J L. WOODEN.
