In order that this invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into practice, reference may be had to the appended explanatory sheet of drawings, upon which Figure 1 is a front perspective view of a watch wristlet illustrating one method of carrying out the present invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of part of the device shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the connecting hinge element in Figs. 1 and 2 before bein fixed in position. lln one convenient embodiment of this invention as shown in Figs. 1 to 5 which will be described by way of example as relating to a watch wristlet,--the wristlet or circlet portion proper consists of a band of coiled or like expansible wire 1, the coils or convolutions of which are advantageously of flat, oval or like elongated formation, said spring band 1 having a length of tape cord or other inextensible flexible material 2 passing therethrough to determine the maximum length to which the spring band may be expanded. The watch case 3 is furnlshed at diametrically opposite positions of its circumference with loops or perforated ears 4: projectingtherefrom, such loops 4 being of the form usually provided in connection with strap wristlet watches for accommodating the strap, and to connect the spring band 1 to the watch 3 separate connecting elements are furnished adapted to be connected on the one hand with the loops or perforated ears 4 and on the other hand with the end coils or convolutions of the wire band 1, the connections when efiected forming hinges, and
allowing of a free pivotal movement of the band 1 in relation to the watch 3. Two connecting hinge elements are provided, one
portion 5 is bent or curved over to semicylindrical shape and the one half or part a. e. that part furnished with the apertures 6 is passed advantageously rearwardly between the two end coils or convolutions of the wire band 1 and the extremity of the tape 2 or other internal band is threaded through the aperture 6. The other or mperforated half or part of the connecting element 5 is then passed advantageously rearwardly through the side loop or perforated ear 4 of the watch 2, after which the two parts of the element 5 are bent over and pressed together, the one or imperforated part round the watch loop 4, and the other or perforated part round the wire coil 1, the outer edge 7 of the last named part being advantageously inserted beneath and grlpped by that part of the element 5 which encircles I Q r 7 1,135,409
necting element containing the perforation 6 and which is adapted to pass through the coils 1 is reduced in width in relation to the remainder, the width or size of said part being determined according to the width of the coiled band 1.
In another embodiment of this invention, as shown in Figs. 6 to 9 instead of furnishing side loops 4 upon the watch case 3, two small vertically disposed sleeves, sockets or perforated eye members 8 are provided, each pair of sleeve members 8 extending out from the circumference of the watch case 3 at diametrically opposite positions, the two sleeves of each pair being spaced a suitable distance from each other, and their axes in vertical alinement. The hinge connecting element is in the form of a small metallic strip portion 9 having an elongated perforation 6 at one side as before described for the accommodation of the internal tape or band- 2, and at that side or part of the strip memher 9 opposite to the perforated part a suitable tubular sleeve portion 10 is formed or secured, which'tubular portion 10 is adapted to be inserted intermediate the two sleeve or eye members Son the watch 3 in such a manner that the perforation 11 of the tubular portion is in vertical alinement with the per- .forations of the two sleeve portions 8. When the tubular part 10 of the connecting element 9 is assembled between the two sleeve portions 8 a pin or the like 12 is passed through both the sleeve portions 8 and the tubular part 10 and suitably secured in position therein. The other half or part of the connecting element containing the perforation 6 is caused to encircle the one or end coil ofthe wire band 1 as before described, and in this manner a hinge connection is effected. The two sleeve portions 8 uponeach side of the watch case 3 may be formed by providing projecting lugs each having a portion removed from the center thereof so as to form upper and lower projecting arms, which arms are vertically perforated to form the desired sleeve portions. The tubular part 10 of the connecting hinge member 9 may if desired be reduced in size in relation to the remainder of the member, the dimensions of said member being varied to suit the spring band to which it is applied.
In a further embodiment as shown in Figs. 10 to 12,. the hinge connecting element is formed from a flat metallic strip 13 a certain portion at its one extremity being advantageously reduced in width and bent over in the form of a tongue piece 14, a cylindrical or tubular sleeve portion 15 being formed at the position where the tongue 14 is bent over. The other extremity of the strip 13 is also bent over in an opposite direction to the tongue 15, only a narrow strip being bent over so as to form a hook-like portion 16. The metallic strip 13 is then bent over cen- "or eyes 8, a pin 12 passing through said sleeves 8 and 15 to form the hinge. The tongue portion 14 is passed through a transverse slot '19 in arm 18, the two arms being Connected together face to face by said tongue, flattened down one upon the other and inserted within the coils of the wire band 1 so as to extend a suitable distance along same. With the end coil of the bend 1 the hooked extremity 16 engages by encircling or ripping same. An aperture 20 is formed t lrough the connecting'element for the accommodation of the internal tape or band 2.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. Watch wristlets, bracelets, glove and sleeve holders and the like in which the extremities of a coiled and expansible wire band are secured to a watch, miniature or other article or ornament to be incorporated therewith by means of separate hinge connectlon members or' elements which are adapted to be connected' on the one hand with the end coils or convolutions of the wire band and on the other hand with suitable members or parts furnished on the watch or ornament.
2. Watch wristlets, bracelets, glove and sleeve holders and the like in which the extremities of a coiled and expansible wire band are secured to a watch, miniature or other article or ornament by means of separate hinge connection. elements each consisting of a small metallic strip or plate portion, one part of which is adapted to be pivotally connected with a suitable projection or part upon thewatch or ornament while the other half or part is adapted to engage with or encircle an end coil or convolution of the wire band. a

Watch wristlets, bracelets, glove and sleeve holders and the like in which a watch, ornament or the like is secured to a coiled and expansible wire band by hinge connection elements each of which comprises a. separate metallic strip or plate portion having a tubular portion formed or provided thereon, the strip portion being adapted to engage with or encircle an end coil or convolution of the wire band while the tubular part is adapted to be hinged to suitable projections on the watch or ornament.-
