To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN' F. Bnooxs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vicksburg, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in boxes.

The main object of this invention is to provide an improved box adapted for use as a berry box or the like, which may be shipped or stored in the collapsed form and quickly and readily erected, and one which when erected is rigid and secure.

Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.

The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.

A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:

blank forming the bottom is scored at 8 so that the flaps may be readily turned downward. The flap 6 is secured to one side wall of the box, preferably by means of the bottom staple 3, and is secured so that its lower edges are substantially flush with the lower edges of the side walls when the box is erected. The bottom thus secured by its fiap 6 to one of the side walls of the box, may be folded against the wall to which it is secured when the box is collapsed, as shown in Fig. VII, or swung to erected position, as clearly shown in the Figs. II and III. The bottom is also preferably formed of paper board. The flaps 7 and the adjacent side walls are provided with fastener clip openings 9 and 10 respectively, which are brought into register when the box is in its erected position. The fastener clips 11 are inserted through these openings and folded over the edges of the flaps and the bottom edges of the side walls, as clearly illustrated, the ends of the fastener clips being folded against the outer sides of the walls. The lower edges of the side flaps are substantially flush with the lower edges of the side walls so that the fasteners embrace and support the flaps from their edges. This provides a very rigid and secure attaching means for the bottom so that the bottom is supported on all of its sides by its flaps and does not sag or become distorted by the weight thereon, and further, the bottom cannot be pushed up by the fingers of a person picking up the box pressing on the bottom thereof. This is of decided advantage in handling the erected boxes.

The fasteners 11 are formed of strips of soft tin or other suitable metal so that they can be readily folded into place by the fingers. If desired, these fasteners can be easily removed to permit the collapsing of the box.

The bottom fitting into the side walls, effectively braces and supports the same. The side wall and bottom blanks are formed without waste of material, and can be readily assembled, and also, the same can be quickly set up or erected for use.

While my improvements are especially designed by me for use in structures of the berry box type, and I have illustrated such a box, they are adapted for other purposes.

Other material than paper board may be used, although one of the objects I have in view is to provide a box which may be formed of paper board, and be rigid and bottom closely fitting Within the side walls when erected and havlng a downturned flap on each edge extending entirely across the bottom, one of the flaps being permanently V stapled to the side wall formed by the overlapped endportions of the side wall blarflx, there being fastener openings in the other flaps and the adjacent side walls registering when the bottom is in its erected position with the lower edges of the flaps substantially flush with the lower edges of the side walls, removable bendable fasten- 'ers' arranged through said fastener openings and folded over thelower edges of the bottom flaps and; :side walls, the ends of the fasteners; being folded against the outer sides of the Walls, said fasteners being of a character permitting their insertion and removal without the aid of tools. a
