AUXILIARY UNLOCKING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 16, 1915.
Application filed April 9, 1914. Serial No. 830,592.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAvUs L. STUEB- NEE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Flushing, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Auxiliary Unlocking Devices, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an auxiliary unlocking device. It may be used with various kinds of locking devices and is particularly applicable to locking devices of buckets, where the charges or loads in the buckets makes it difficult to unlock the locking devices in the ordinary manner. An ordinary locking device may be unlocked by means of its own parts, the present in vention is designated as an auxiliary unlocking device.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a front elevation of the invention connected to a dumping bucket, Fig. 2 represents a left hand side view of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with the elements of the invention in a changed position, Fig. 4: shows an enlarged fragmentary portion of Fig. 3, Fig. 5 is a top plan view of Fig. 4 and Fig. 6 shows a top plan view of a detail.
A dumping bucket is indicated with a body having the sides 20, 21, front wall 22,
- rear wall 23 and nose 24. From the sides 20,
21 extend the bail pivots 26, 27 which are connected to the supporting brackets 28, 29. The said pivots respectively support the eyes 30, 31 of the members 32, 33 of the bail of the bucket. Bail supporting pins 38, 39 respectively extend from the sides 20 and 21 of the body of the bucket. A locking tongue 40 extends from the side 21 of the bucket. A U shaped latch 43 with the depending arm 14 is pivoted to the member 33 of the bail and is positioned to be enabled to lock with the tongue 40. A pivot bracket 17 extends from the side 21 of the body of the bucket. An unlocking arm 48 carrying the unlocking pin 49 is pivoted to the bracket 47 by means of the pin 50. A protecting shield is fastened to the side 21 of the body of the bucket, and prevents the arm 18 coming in contact with obstructions when the unlocking arm is in a vertical position. Should a user attempt to unlock the latch 43 by lifting the arm 44:, it would be found that quite an efiort would have to be exerted in case the bucket is charged with its load. To obviate this effort the user raises the unlocking arm 48 from the position shown in Figs. 1, 2 to the position shown in Figs. 3 to 5, and thereby the unlocking pin 49 bears up and raises the depending arm 44. The latch 43 is thereby unlocked and swung clear of the locking tongue 40, so that the bucket can be dumped by pulling down the nose 2 1.
. I aving described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim 1s:
1. In an unlocking device the combination of a bail of a bucket, a latch pivoted to said bail, a locking tongue for the latch, an unlocking arm pivoted adjacent to said latch and a pin extending from the arm in the path of the latch and coacting therewith.
2. In an unlocking device the combination of a bail of a bucket, a latch having a depending arm pivoted to said bail, a locking tongue extending from the body of the bucket and in the path of said latch, a pivoted unlocking arm adjacent to said latch and a pin extending from the unlocking arm coacting with said depending arm.
3. The combination with a bucket of a latch having a depending arm pivoted to the bail of the bucket, a locking tongue extending from one of the sides of the bucket coacting with said latch, a pivot bracket extending from the said side of the bucket, an unlocking arm having a pin extending there from pivoted to said pivot bracket, the said pin in the path of said depending arm and coacting therewith to raise the same and unlock the latch from said locking tongue.
1. The combination with a bucket of a latch pivoted to the bail of the bucket, a locking tongue extending from one of the sides of the bucket coacting with said latch, a pivoted unlocking arm adjacent to said latch, a pin extending from the unlocking arm coacting with said latch and a protecting shield for the unlocking arm.
Signed at the borough of Manhattan in the county of New York and State of New York this 3rd day of April A. D. 1914:.
