Specification of Letters Patent.

To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAX E. HERTWIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in shade brackets and has for its object the provision of a device of the above character which may be easily and quickly attached to a window frame without the use of screws or other separate fastening means.

Another object of my invention is the provision of such a device which may be adjusted to receive different lengths of shade rollers without necessitating the removal of the same from its position on the window frame.

Still another object of my invention is-the provision of such a device which will be simple in operation, cheap in construction and elfective in use.

With the above and other objects in view I will now proceed to describe my invention in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which,

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference 1 indicates a window of the ordinary construction, having slidably mounted therein the usual sash 2. This window is framed in the ordinary manner and provided with the strips 3 which are adapted to retain the sash in its position.

My improved shade support preferably comprises the L-shaped member 4 which is bent as clearly illustrated at 5 to form a rearwardly extending projection which is adapted to be pressed into the groove formed between the strip 3 and the window casing. The other arm of the L-shaped member indicated by the numeral 6 is preferably provided with the upturned portions 7 which extend substantially throughout the entire length of the member 6 and are adapted to form guides, the use of which will be more fully hereinafter described. The end 13 of the cooperating member 9, opposite the reduced end, is preferably provided with the longitudinally extending slot 14 through which the bolt 8 is adapted to extend. Extending laterally from the side walls of the portion 13 I preferably provide the guide members 15 which,are adapted to project into the grooves formed by the upturned members 7 and hold the cooperating member 9 firmly in position.

In operation it will be clearly seen upon referring to the drawings that my improved device is secured to the window by forcing the rearwardly extending member 5 into the opening between the strip 3 and the window frame. Then it is desired to place a shade roller in position it is obvious that by loosening the bolt 8, the cooperating member 9 may be longitudinally adjusted with relation to the member 4 and in that way shades of varying widths may be used.

While in the foregoing I have shown and described the preferred embodim nt of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I may change the specific arrangement of parts without in any way departin from the spirit and scope of my invention.
