Description
Patented March 7, 1871. 4
i St. Joseph, in the my invention relates to same, I will proceed to describe its construcver, curved as shown y `with a slot or hole, withinwhich enters edge- P nrnrrrl OFFICE.
JOHN GUIDER, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI, ASSIGNORTO HIMSELF AND JOHN KIEFFER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLAMPS FOR THlLL-COUPLINGS.
x Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 112,448. dated March 7, 1871.
To all whom it may concern: p
Be' it known that I, JOHN W. GUIDER, of county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, haveinvented a certain new and useful Improvement in Clamps; and I l do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear f being7 had to the accompanying drawing, formand exact description thereof, reference 'ing apart of the same, in which- Figure `l represents a perspective view of `n:1y clamp in the position ready to be applied to a thill-coupling, also shown in said ligure,
and Fig. 2 represents a side view of the same applied to the said thill-coupling.
This `invention appertains to clamps; and consists of `a curvilinear lever, with `one end beveledto a point, in combination with a link or frame, to which it is pivoted, one portion 'of said link being constructed with an inclined or bent arm and one portion with a right-an guiar receptacle, asliereinafter shown and described.
vention. l To enable those skilled in the art to which make and use the tion and operation. y
In the annexed drawing, A represents a letherein,l and supplied Wise the end of the inclined portion of the link B, to which said lever is pivoted by a pin, a. The upper curved end of the leverA is beveled to a point, as seen in Fig. 2, and the lower l curved portion thereof is made round, so as to furnish a handle, by means of which it may b'e conveniently grasped and operated.
B designates a link or frame connected to the lever A, as above set forth, at the end of ing a hollow shoulder or receptacle, the object of which will be apparent from the drawing.
My clamp, in one of its uses, is for holding down one end of the rubber bar or elastic used in connection with thill-couplings of the kind/shown in the drawing, for the purpose of allowing the eyebolt connecting, the shaft to the thill to be readily and easily inserted in its place, as byl clamping or holding down one end of the said rubber bar, as shown in Fig. 2, the said bar will be expanded lengthwise, and consequently contracted or made narrow, leaving room for the said bolt while going through the operation above stated, thereby obviatinga difficulty heretofore experienced in g `the introduction of bolts in thill-couplings in Similar letters of reference in the several figures indicatecorresponding parts of my in-4 which rubber or elastic is used.
The operation of my invention will be read-V ily and fully understood by reference to the iigures of the accompanying drawing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The curvilinear pointed lever A, in combination with the pivoted link or frame B, constructed substantially as described and shown, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN W. GUIDER.
Witnesses J oHN KIEFFER, GEO. WAKERLEN. y
