With the above-end other objects in View, my invention consists in certain novel feetures of construction end arrangement of ports hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Formed integral with the post or upright 6, and arranged on the front side thereof, is a wide vertically disposed flange the -beam forming the vestibule post. When the vestibule posts are applied to the buller beam, the lower ends of said posts preferably rest on the bottom wall of said buffer beam, and said posts are rigidly attached to the posts 8 and flanges 10 in any suitable manner, preferably by means of rivets. The upper ends of each set of posts, 5, 6 and 7, are connected by a horizontally disposed rail 11, and formed integral with the ends of the butler beam and with theend posts 5,l
are rearwardly projecting vertically disposed plates or brackets 12 preferably provided with marginal flanges 12a,land the lower ends of these plates bear upon and are rigidly fixed to the end portions of the side sills 13 of the ear underframe, Gusset plates 14 are formed integral with and arm ranged between the lower portions of the plates ,or brackets 12 and the end portions of the bilder beam.
Formed integral with the buffer beam and projecting rearwardly therefrom, are webs or flanges 15 which serve as points of attachment for the ends of intermediate sills 16, which latter form a part of the car nn derframe. The lower portions of the corner posts 17 of the car body or superstructure 'ing strains, such as may are ri gidly fixed in any suitable manner to the posts or nprights 5, and'car end posts 18 or said superstructure are fixed to the intermediate posts or uprights 6.
Where a combined butler beam and` car end reinforcement of my improved construction is applied tc cars which do not recuire endV doors, the upper and lower portions or the posts or uprights 6 may be connected by transverse rails 19, as shown by dot-ted lines in Fig. 1. ln this form of car end reinforcement, the butler beam is rigidly iixed directlv to the sills of the undertrame and as the vertically disposed rey. inforcing frames are formed integral with?.
said butler beam, a very strong anc rigid structure is produced which is anti-telescopic in effect 'for the reason that it tends to eil'eetually resist all end shocks and crushbe developed during collisions.
The end reinforcement illustrated in Figs. 5, 6, and 7, is particularly designed for use -the buffer beam,
in connection with box cars for either wood or metal superstructure. This construction includes a cast metal buffer beam 20 which is substantially box shape throughout its length, and formed integral with and depending rom the central 'portion of said butler beam are box shaped lugs 21 which serve as supports for the draw bar carry iron. Formed integral with the box shaped lugs and with the central portion of the buffer beam, are inwardly projecting webs or flanges 22 which serve as points of attachment for the center sills 23 of the car underframe.
Formed integral with and projecting up wardly from the end portions ofthe buder beam, are postsA or uprights 24, and formed integral with and projecting upwardly from the central portion of said bulier beam, are posts'or uprights 25. The upper ends of the posts 24 and 25 are united by an integrally formed flanged rail 26. The posts 25 are preferably channel shape in cross ,section in order to receive the lower portions of the car end posts 27.

1. A reinforcing structure for cor ends comprising an integrally formed bulier beam, :in uprightcar end reinforcing freine and cerry iron supporting lugs.
2. A reinforcing structure for car ends comprising on integrally formed bufer beam, an upright cer end'reinfoi-cing frame thereon, csrry iron attaching lugs ontbe underside of said beam, end side sill engeging brackets projecting from the ends of said bn'er beam and upright ironie.
3. A reinforcing structure for cer ends comprising e buil'er beam, o. pair of upright frames integral with said buffer benin, side sill engaging brackets integral with the ends of seid beam and the outer ends of seid frames, and integral gusset plates between the end portions of the beern and the lower portions of the side sill engaging brackets.
4. A reinforcing structure for cer ends comprising e butler beam, side sill engaging gusset plates between the end portions of said beam ond the lower portions of seid brackets.
5. A reinforcing structure for car' ends comprising o buffer beam, :i series of np- 'rights formed integral therewith, which uprights are adapted to engage the end Wall structure of the cer body, side sill engaging brackets integral with 'the ends oi seid buffer beam, and integral gusset plates between tli'eidprtionsof seidbeern and the lower portions of seid brackets.
