` The Scheduler-etched to in these Letters Patent making parl: of the same.
"To all (lvhom it may concern: l
` l Be it known .that we,SAMUnL SEMPLE, Sr., JOHN l SEMPLE, ,SAMUEL LSRMPLE, Jr., and ROBERT A: SEMBLE, of Mount Holly, in the county of Burlington andin the State of New J erseyfhave invented certain new and useful Improvements, in Machines for Poli ishing Thread; anddo hereby declare that the fol? lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,
reference being hadto the accompanyingdrawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part ofthis specification. Y
rlhe nature of` our in vention consists in the con- 4struction of a machine for` polishing thread,. as will be hereinafter fully set forth. Y y
p In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we Will nonT proceed to describe its construction andwoperation, referring to theannexed drawing, "-.n Which` l sffvliigure 1 is a side View; y l i Figure 2, a plan vievvyand` Figure-3, anend view ofour machine. y
A represents' the franielofour machine, in which the large drying and 'polishing-cylinder has. its `4bear- 4 ings and revolves. A
At the rear end of the frame A are a pair of rollers, B B, revolving in a sizingtrougm C, and through which the thread passes on itsway over the drying and polishing-cylinder.. n 1- p On each side ofthis cylinderis placed a cross-bar, D, with guide-wires d, thejone in front ofgthe cylin- 1 der being for the purposeof guiding the'thread onto 1 the bobbins, after being dried and polished, by means of friction imparted by "the cylinder. The drying and polishing-cylinder is composed of .two heads, E E, placed a suitable distance apart on a central shaft, which has its bearings in the frame A.
`The two heads E `E are connected by a series of bars a,placed a suitable distance apart, and secured to the onterperiphery of the heads.
These bars -are provided with bristles, in vany suitable manner, forming regular brushes, extending onthe outsdefrom head to head, as shown.
- Between thebrushes a a are, in like manner, secured grooved stationary rollers, or 'sections of rollers 'b I1, made of any suitable material.
The'thread is taken frein large bobbinsv at the back of the frame`A, where they revolve iu a `crecl holding eighty-four hobbins. The threads are then passed through the sizing-box C, through guide-wires, and over the brush-cylinder, then th roughthe otherguidewires ontoa set Vof Dobbins revolvingin a frame, taking'uup the thread as it isdelivered.
. We do vnotclaim broadly the combination 'of brushes Vwith groovedrollers, for such weare aware is not' new; but
L Whai'i'ivc do claim, and desire to secure by Letters f Patent of the United States, is
tiall'y as andforthe purpose specified In testnnony that we claim Athe foregoing We have#- 4hereunto set our hands this 12th day oi' April, 1870.
