Description
- E. E. PRYBERG. ATTACHMENT FOR WASHBOARDS. APPLICATION FILED PBB.20, 1913.
1,122,719, Patented Dec.29,1914.
mav
ATTORNEY ms PETERS CO. PHOT0 LITHO., WASHINGTON, D. C
ELMER E. FRYBERG, OF DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
ATTACHMENT FOR WASHBOARDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Y Patented Dec. 29, 1914.
Application filed February 20, 1913. Serial No. 749,694..
of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Washboards, of which the following is a speclfication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in attachments for washboards.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment for washboards whereby it may be readily placed in a tub and attached to the upper edge of the tub and firmly held thereon during ordinary usage, and at the same time providing means whereby it may be quickly released by an upward pull thereon.
Another object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap and more effective attachment which can be readily applied to any of the ordinary washboards and having certain details hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawingFigure 1 is a side elevation of my improved attachment applied to a washboard and showing the same clamped upon the upper edge of a tub. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of my improved attachment showing it detached from the washboard. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the inside of my improved attachment showing it detached from the washboard.
Referring now to the drawing, 1 represents a thin metal piece forming the body of my improved holder and pressed outwardly as indicated at 1 intermediate the two end portions 2 and 2, for the purpose of providing a central housing in which is p1votally secured a catch 3. While I have shown and described but one of my improved holders, it will be understood that there is one of these holders secured to the wooden frame at each side of the scrubbing-board.
My improved holder, as heretofore stated, is made of a thin piece of metal and extends down below the lower face of the side pieces of the scrubbing-board and is provided with a nose portion 4 to suitably house the free end of the catch 3 and also serving as a support for the spring 5, which maintains the catch 3 in its normal downward position. The body-portion 1, opposite the lower end 2, is provided with a lip 6, forming a mouth 7 the inner curved wall of which is pressed at right angles to the body forming a flange 8, and adjacent the upper end of which the catch 3 normally rests, as shown in the drawings.
The catch 3, as shown, is provided with a projecting tooth 9, so as to readily slip over the rim 10 of the washtub when the board and holder are forced down, or will let go of the rim when the board is raised, thus forming a firm contact with the rim of the tub and firmly clampin the same on the upper edge of the tub. 6wing to the peculiar shape of the projecting tooth 9 of the catch 3, the board can be readily inserted or removed without moving the catch 9, by hand.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a washboard having plates secured thereto, and having bulged central portions extending below the board, and having months into which the flange of the tub extends, and catches pivoted within the bulged portions and extending down and across the mouths in said plates and springs normally holding the catches in their inner position.
2. The combination with a washboard having side pieces, of plates secured to the side pieces, and having bulged central portions, the said plates secured to the side pieces beyond the bulged portions, the lower edge of the plate having the bulged portions extending beyond the edge of the plate, and the side pieces of the board, and having a mouth into which the upper end of the tub is adapted to extend, the extension of the bulged portions having their edges turned laterally, catches pivoted to the said plates the board may be readily attached to or rewithin the bulged portions and extending moved from the tub. down and adapted to extend across the In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my mouths of the said plates, and springs rivsignature in the presence of two witnesses. eted to the laterally turned edges of the ELMER E. F RYBERG. bulged portions of the plate and adapted to engage the said catches and normally hold them inwardly across the mouths, whereby Witnesses:
