Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
mu ane aiea September 20, 1913. Serial No. 790,995.
To all whom it may canoe m:
Be it known that LRoenn'r F. WARHAM, a citizen of the United States, residingat Applegate, in the county of Placer and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Facial Steamers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device or mask for steaming the cheeks and chin of the face.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved facial steamer consisting of a removable, washable, pliable fabric or cloth of such form as to be comfortably adjusted about the face to cover thecheeks and chin, and which fabric'er towel is rovided for substantial "interlocking adjust ment upon an impervious mask or shield which has its edges turned inwardly forming a ridge around the edge of the towel, which ridge also forms a stop to prevent the escape of steam and moisture from the edges of the mask, and further serves the purpose of a guide for directing the con densed steam and moisture downwardly over the face and into a receptacle formed at the bottom of the mask, the ridge also preventing the escape of the liquid at the edges of the mask. e
The mask, which is of flexible material, is provided further with tongues at its ends for insertion through slots or apertures at the ends .of the towel and for holding the steamer against the face. The ends of the tongues are rovided with means for the attachment 0 a flexible, resilient band adjustable over the head.
The invention furtherconsists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which the figure is a view of the steamer in a position as adjusted about the face, and partly in section.
The present mask or steamer consists of an exterior flexible shield 2, preferably of impervious material such as rubber which may be of various sizes and shapes, and which is provided at 3-3 with tongues, these being slotte'd, as at 4, for the recep tion of books or clasps 5 of a flexible, resilient head strap 6.
One of the important features of this invention is in the formation of circumferentially inwardly raised ridges or beads 8, wh ch -may' be of appropriate depth, and which are adapted to bear snugly against the face when the shield is adjusted thereon, and lying against the inner surface ofv the shield and substantially covering the same is a removable towel 9, the towel 9 being slotted at its ends 1111 for adjustment over the tongues 3 to prevent its 1ong tudmal and lateral displacement and to aid in the adjustment of the steamer without wrinkles or creases against the face.
Another important feature of this invention is the provision of a catchment pocket 12 formed upon or attached to the lower portion of the under-surface of the shield 2, that portion of the shield which is just above thepocket 12 being perforated, as at 13, so that the condensed steam and moisture gravitating down along the surface of the shield and through the towel will collect in the pocket 12 by passing through the apertures 13. Thus it will be seen that I have provided a steamerfor facial treatment comthe ends of the towel by insertion through the apertures 11 thereof, and by using a flexible readily-detachable head band 6 the whole may be applied to the head and face without necessitating any adjustment of buckles or tying of knots, or other fastening contraptions, the flexible head strap allowing ample range for the adjustment of the device upon heads and faces of different proportions.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A face mask including a shield adapted to fit the lower part and sides of the face, a raised peripheral rib following the contour of said shield, a lining removably seating on the shield and having its bounding edges arranged to loosely bear against the inner sides of the rib whereby to restrict movement of the lining. with relation to the shield, said lining having side parts which extend beyond the free ends of the adjacent, side parts of the shield and are provided with slots, tongues on said free ends of the side parts of the shield extending through said slots of the side parts of the lining, whereby to hold the side parts of to the lining against downward movement, and
means to engage the head of the wearer connected to the tongues to support-the entire structure. v
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing 15 witnesses.
- ROBERT F. WAR.
