GEORGE DE BOIBORY, or eYoNeYtis, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
EAR-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 24, 1914.
Application filed November 25, 1913. Serial No. 802,984.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE DE BOBORY, a citizen of the Kingdom of Hungary, and resident of Gyongyos, in the county of Heves and Empire of Austria-Hungary, have 1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Ear-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in ear protectors, and has for one of its objects to provide a simple and inexpensive device which will protect the ears from the cold, dust, dirt, insects, etc.
WVith these and other objects in view, which will more fully appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the combination, arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that many changes may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts and details of construction within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
The invention is particularly adapted for use by persons riding upon rapidly moving vehicles, such as automobiles, locomotives, aeroplanes, etc.
One of the many possible embodiments of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of an ear protector constructed in accordance with the present invention mounted upon a persons head; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof also applied to a persons head; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a pair of goggles and the invention applied thereto; Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the device shown in Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is a rear elevation thereof.
In the drawings, the character 6 designates a pair of goggles, such as are usually worn by automobilists. To the sides of the goggle frame are fastened, detachably or permanently, by means of strips f supporting frames (Z, the latter being disposed in the planes of said strips. To each supporting frame is fastened a shell-like wing a, constituting ear flaps, which extend at angles to the frames cl. To the upper and lower end of each frame (1 are secured resilient straps b, which converge toward each other. Each set of straps carry at their free ends separable fastening means 0.
In using the invention, the goggles and protecting wings are applied to the face, and the separable fastening means a joined in rear, whereby the straps I) embrace the rear side of the head. The straps I) do not interfere with the ears for the reason that the supporting frames d are considerably longer than the ears, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of. the drawings. The protecting wings are disposed in front of the ears, and, inasmuch as said wings are shell-like and extend at an angle to the face of the person using the same, they do effectively protect the ears against cold, wind, etc., but at the same time permit the person to plainly understand words and orders coming from those sitting behind.
It is to be noted that, while herein the ear protector has been described as attached to goggles, the same can be applied to the cheek straps of caps, to the masks of aviators, and to other suitable means.
What I claim is 1. An ear protector comprising two shelllike interconnecting wings adapted to be arranged in front of the ears, straps connected with said wings adapted to surround the head, and separable Iastening means carried by said straps.
2. An ear protector comprising two interconnected supporting frames adapted to lie in front of the ears against the face, a shelllike wing carried by each supporting frame at an angle thereto, straps attached to said supporting frames adapted to surround the head, and separable fastening means carried by said straps.
3. In a. device of the character described, the combination with a pair of goggles, of two supporting frames attached thereto face, a shell-like wing attached at an angle to each supporting frame, straps attached adapted to lie in front of the ears against the to said supporting frames adapted to surround the head, and separable fastening means carried by said straps.
4. An ear protector, the combination with a pair of goggles, of shell-like wings attached thereto at an angle to the plane of said goggles, said wings being adapted to lie in front of the ears, straps connected with 1,1 meee said Wings adapted to surround the head, Signed at Budapest, in the county of Pest and separable fastening means carried by andjtitate of Hungary the twenty fifth day 10 said straps. of October A. D. 1913.
5. An ear protector com risin two shell- 5 like interconnected Wings dapte d to be .ar- GEORGE DE ranged in front of the ears at angles to the Witnesses: face, and means for securing the same to Dm'oniix LARELC'), the head. MARIE WEISS.
