Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed April 21, 1914. Serial No. 833,517.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. WATERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Athens, in the county of Clarke and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Braces; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letpanying drawing in which I have shown a top plan view of my invention.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawing by letter, A designates the frame of a bedstead and B is a tension wire which is fastened at its ends to the corners of the head of the bedstead, and C designates other tension wires which are fastened to the opposite end and sides of the bedstead and which wires G cross each other as shown. A handle, designated by letter D, made of any suitable material, is provided with lateral projections E, one of which is apertured as at F for the reception of the hook H, the shank portion of which is swiveled in said aperture while its hooked end engages the tension wire B. The other projection E is provided with an aperture E through which the shank portion of the screw K passes, which screw has a hook I at one end for engagement of the tension wires C at their points of intersection. The hole E is threaded to receive the threaded portions of the screw K and forming means whereby the handle may be adjusted. I. I

In operation, the hooks are attached to the wires as shown and, by turning the handle in one direction, the screw may be length ened or shortened, thus regulating the tension of the Wires which are attached to the bedstead. A reverse rotary movement to the handle will lengthen the screw adjustment and relieve thebedstead of its tension.

What I claim to be new is:

A bed brace comprising, in combination with the bedstead, wires attached one to corners of the bed, intersecting wires fastened to the opposite corners and to the side,

a handle having lateral projections, one near each end and each projection being apertured, a swivel, a hook swiveled in one aperture engaging the tension wire at one end of the bedstead, a screw fitted in a threaded aperture in the other projection and having a hooked end for engagement with said intersecting wires.
