T0 all whom, it may con-cern Be it known that we, SAMUEL R. ALLEN and JAMES \V..BAUGHMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Dewey, in the county ot' Washington and State oi' Oklahoma, have invented new and useful lmprovements in F ountain-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

Thisinvention relates to fountain brushes and more particularly to devices for applying shoe` polish, stenciling liquid and the like.

An object of the invention is to provide a device having novel means for regulating the amount of liquid discharged from the container which is determined by pressure upon an applying device, which applying device is moved toward or into juxtaposition with the dispensing tube as, the liquid is dis-4 charged therethrough from the container.

Further objects of the invention will` ap- `pear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing,

which forms a art of this application, and in which the gure is a vertical sectional view taken throughthe container and dispensing device.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents a container of any suitable character which is provided on its upper end with threads 2 and screwed thereon is a frusto-conical sleeve 3. rlhe upper end of inwardly turned flange 4 against which a stopper 5 is adapted to seat. rlhis stopper 1s litted within and carried by the sleeve 3, and, as shown, has the centralaperture in which a tube 6 is mounted. rlhe lower end of the tube has an inwardly turned flange 7 which orms a seat for the valve 8 and an abutment for the spiral spring 9. Passing through the tube, and connected at one end to the valve is a plunger 10 to the o posite end of which is secured a head l1 liaving a pluof orts 12 to permit the assage of from the container. his head carries a suitable applying device 13 in the form of a brush or other body adapted to hold and dispense liquid, such'as a sponge, as will be readily understood.r rlhe ybrush or other body 13 projects through the outer end l of the sleeve and ts the same closely so as ralit to prevent escape of liquid around the sides thereof. The lower end of the stem or plunger 10 which passes through the valve 8 is threaded so as to receive anadjusting nut ll by which the tension of the spring may be regulated. The 'opposite end of the spring may seat against the head l1 or against a collar 15 secured upon the outer end ofthe plunger l0, as shown.

Pressure upon the applying device l1 will cause the valve to unseat and allow the liquid in the container l to pass through the tube and apertures 12 onto the applying device. Upon release of the pressurel on the applying device the spring will automativice, a container, a stopper seated on thel container and having a central aperture, a

tube litted in the aperture and projecting beyond the stopper, an abutment formed in the tube, a plunger slidably mounted in the tube and having a valve at one end arranged to close the aperture, an absorbent member connected to the op poste end of the plunger, a spiral spring arranged between the absorbent member and the abutment and means to hold the stopper on the container.

2. A dispensing and applying device comprising a container, a stopper arranged on the container and having an aperture, a plunger operating within the stopper and carrying an absorbent applying device, a valve for closing the aperture which is re leased upon movement of the applying device toward the stop er and apertured means removably mounte on the container for holding the stopper.
