NELS ANTON HANSE, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
KNocKDoWN CABINET.
` To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, NrELs ANTON HANSEN, a subject of the King of Denmark, and having declared my intention of becoming a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Cabinets; andl do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention' relates to knock-down cabinets and. has for an object to provide a cabinet made up of sections with improved means for securing the sections separably together to form a cabinet having a great degree of rigidity when organized to form such cabinet.
A further object of the invention `is to provide a cabinet which when made up in part of screened sections .employs also a sufficient number of solid sections of the proper size to serve for crating and protecte ing the screen sections when the device is in knock-down condition.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings z-Figure 1 is a perspec-` tive view of the improved cabinet organ ized, with parts broken away to show the manner of securing the elements together.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectionalv view through the improved cabinet. Fig. 3 is a view of the improved cabinet in knoclodown condition with the parts associated and crated. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the top removed.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The improved cabinet which fo-rms the subject matter of this application includes a front section, indicated as a whole at A, and side sections B and C. Preferably, though not necessarily, these side and front sections A, B and C are made up of frames 10 covered with fabric or screen as indicated, it being understood, however, that the construction of these sections as screened is immaterial to the present invention, the invention comprehending as well sections Specification. of Lettersllatent.

composed of material which is not screened.
tongues 13 proportioned to lit within `the,
dove-tailed grooves 12. As shown more par'- ticularly in Fig. 4, the dove-tailed grooves are formed tapered or wedge-shaped withL the dove-tailed v4tongues 13 formed to correspond, the wider ends of the grooves and tongues being at the front of the cabinet.
The sections A, B and C are set up as indicated in Fig. 1 `and the top D placed upon the sections B and C by inserting the ends of the tongues 13 in the `ends of the grooves 12 and sliding the top-section toward the front. The bottom section E is pnt on in thesame manner, preferably by inverting the structure and sliding the bottom onto the lower ends of the sections B and C in like manner.
The inner faces of the frames 10 ofthe sections B and C are provided near their rear edges with vertical ygrooves 14 and the back section F is provided along all of its edges with tongues 15. The tongues 15 along the vertical edges are inserted in the vertical grooves 14 of the sections 4B and C by moving` the bottom section E slightly to the front and sliding the back section F upward within such grooves. The top section D is also provided with a groove 16 which receives the upper tongue of the back section F. The bottom section E is not provided with a groove similar to the groove 16 but simply made slightly thinner at itsy rear so that the rearward edge slides under the shoulder forming the tongue 15 at the lower edge of the back section F.
Both the top section D and the bottom section E are provided with forwardly eX- tending flanges 17 which serve as lintel and sill respectively for the top and bottom of,
the door section' A, such iianges being preferably produced by forming `a rabbet in the front edges of the top and bottom sections.
To knock down the cabinet from its assembled position as shown in Fig. lthe door section A is lirst opened and the bottom section E slid forward slightly to free the back section F which is then slidably drawn down out of the grooves 14 of the side sections B and C. The bottom section is then moved in the opposite direction or toward the back to release it from the tongue and groove connection with the side sections B and C, and the caibinet inverted and the top removed in like manner. The side sections B and C are also preferably provided with bars 1S serving as spacers for the frames of the side sections B and C and also serving to receive the ends of shelves 19 which are inserted after the cabinet is set up and are first removed When th-e cabinet is to be knocked down. Then in knock-down position the back section F is first laid upon a support With the connected sections A and B on such back, the section B being folded over upon the section A and the section C laid on the section A alongside the section B. riihe shelves 19 are next placed upon the sections B and C and the top and bottom sections D and E placed last, .which forms a crate to protect the screens of the sections A, B and C. It Will thus be apparent that in the knock-down position as shown in Fig. 3 the screened portion is protected by the solid portions and the Whole device is in position for convenient transportation and storage.
I claim:-
A knock down cabinet comprising duplicate sides having upright grooves in their inner faces near their rear edges and dovetailed tongues along their upper and lower ends tapering toward said edges, a top and a bottom each having tapering dovetailed grooves to receive said tongues, the top having a groove in its inner face near its rear edge and the lbottom being made thinner along its rear edge, a back removably engaging the grooves on the inner faces of the sides and top and resting on the thin portion of the bottom, and a front movably held in place.
In testimony whereof I -aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
e NIELS ANTON HANSEN.
