BUGGY-SHAFT SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 6, 1914.
Application filed July 11, 1913. Serial No. 778,556. I
To all whom it may concern .5 y
Be it known that I, BRADY MURPHY PER- DUE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Franklin, inthe county of Si1npson and State of Kentucky, have invented an Improvement in BuggyShaft Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in that class of devices which areapplied to horse drawn vehicles for the purpose of supporting the shafts in elevated position when the vehicle is not in use.
The invention is more particularly an improvement upon that forwhich I have received Letters Patent of the United States, No. 1,050,687, dated January 14, 1913.. In
the former invention,a shaft-engaging and supporting hook is pivoted to a vertical bracket or standard in such manner that a portion of it projects backward from the standard, and is acted on by a spiral spring which is applied to the standard exteriorly. In the present inventionthe spring is inclosed in a hollow standard and engages the hook on the front side of its pivot.
In the accompanying drawing Figure l is p a vertical sectlon of a port on of a vehlcle front with my lIlVGIltlOIL applied and the disenrigidly attached to the front spring of a vehicle, and a hook 2 is pivoted in the slotted end of the same. contractile spiral spring3 is arranged in the adjacent portionof the standard and its lower end is secured to the latter, while the upper end is attached to the hook in front of its pivot. As shown, the hook is pendent preferable to the former one, since the spring is inclosed and protected and prevented from contact with exterior objects.
I claim The combination hinged thereto and a hollow standard rigidly secured to the front of the vehicle, of a hook pivoted in the standard, and a spiral spring inclosed in the latter and engaging the hook in front of its pivot, asdesc ribed.
BRADY MURPHY PERDUE.
