LlN, acitizenof the United. or bevel, as theicaserimaybe, and will in either instance be efficient .in its operation.
An inip'ortant'object of my invention is j to provide an attachment for rulers particu- ,larly, of the two-foot folding pocketruler type, such as nowiin'general use but it may obviously be attached to any style of ruler.

tion is to provide an attachment for'rulers which may be readily and easily applied or detached, also adjusted to take the place of the gage, square, miter, and bevel, and one which consists of few parts, simple as to construction and chea to manufacture.
The'above and additional objects are accomplishedlby such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed out in the claim which is appended hereto and forms part of this application. 1
With reference'to the drawings, wherein,
I have illustrated the preferred embodi- 'ment of my, invention as it is reduced to practice, and throughout the several views of which, similarreference numerals designate corresponding parts.
Figure 1 is a top plan viewof my device in assembled operative position and shown attached to a ruler, Fig; 2 is a bottom plan view, Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1 and illustrating the manner of securing the ad usting 1 screw'to the device, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of the cooperating portions of the ,slide and adjustable plate mounted thereon.
Referring now to the drawing forming a part ofthis specification and in which like '1 numerals are employed! to designate like parts, throughout the same, the numeral 1 designates a slide, generally, which is pref- I I specification of Letters Patent l [.Anpu ati cn filed August 26, 1913., sr ialuq-l ififlfl i i [with opposed rightQangular side'sl2 and .1; adapted to lie parallel with the side. edges ofa ruler- A' in spaced relation thereto. I
: As a means for clamping the slide upon theruler, this;inventionemploysa pair of spring metal gripping fingers 4- 'and'5 each r Patented se t. 1,1914;
of, which aresecured centrally oftheir ends to the right-angular sides 2zand 3, by means of a rivet -6 or other: suitable fastening means. Each of the fingers i and 5 diverge from thepoint where theyare secured and irr,
terminates beyond the. ends of the sides'Q.
and and basei plate in outwardly turned terminals; with relation to their divergent portions, as will be clearlyseenwithreference to Fig. 2. :It is thusapparentthat the slide may belfitted-quickly upon theruler and is held .in gripping and sliding engagement :thereupon. 1 v1 i .'I;.he central portion of the base I lnga part of the slide 1 is struck upwardly P o de an ann lar. Por n or. b95547 which is centrally apertured and has "ex,- tended therethrough avertical screw 8, the head 9 of i which is held into engagement with the under face oftheboss 7 by means of solder 10 which is applied tothe head 9 within the depression provided by forming the boss 7 The solder 10 is applied so that it will be flush with the under surface of" the base plate of the slide, to provide forthe proper sliding action of the slide upon the ruler, and obviously holds the screw 8 securely against rotation upon the slide.
A rectangular plate 11 provided centrally v a with an upwardly struck annular portion 12 which provides a depression opening upon the under surface of the plate and adapted to engage the boss 7 formed on the base plate of the clamp l. The portion 12 y is centrally apertured to provide for the ex tension of the vertical screw 8 therethrough.
The plate 11 is provided at one terminal with a transversely extending right-angular portion 13 which extends beyond the longitudinal edges of the plate 11 for a considerable difi'erence andis formed integral there- 7 pointed end15, in which is stamped a depression l6 for the purposeotaiiecting the engagement of the depression with the depressions forining 'the graduations 14.
As a means for clamping the plate 11in any adjusted position in relation to the graduation 1% this invention employs a thumb screw ll'Wvhich is fitted upon the miter or bevel as well, and: will in other instances give entire satisfaction owing to the manner in which, it may' be reversed and adjusted. I i i In reduction topractice, I have found that the form-of my invention, illustrated in the drawingsandreferred to in the above (le scription, as the preferred embodimenazis the mostefficient and practical; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent y with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary,
I 'desireto emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details o-fx construction,
proportion and arrangement of partsmay v In. testimony is claimed is":
An attachment for rulers comprising a slide said "slide consisting of a; base late, sides at'righ't angles to said base plate ormed integral with said base plate, a boss formed centrally onwsaid base". plate,;- a verticalscrew mounted within said boss a plate pivotallymounted'upon said base'plate, said *plate having: a transversely extending: pom.-
t-ion disposed in a plane at, right; anglesvto l the plane of said plate, said last mentioned plateiprovided cent-rally with a: depression adapted for engagement with said boss,-said screw extended through said: depressiomand means for: locking,- said plate in, adjusted pnsition including a thumb screwmountedion said vertical screw and adapted for: vengagement with said l'asenatned plate. :1
