tween its longitudinal edges with a longi tudinal groove or channel, indicated at 7. The bed slat 8 is of the ordinary form and To all whom it magi concern lie it known that l, Joe G. linens, a cit]- zen of the United States, residing atldabel, in the county of McCurtain and State oil? Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beds, of which. the tollowii'ig a specification, reference being had to tho acconuianying drawings.
lhis invention relates to ilnproven'ients in beds, and has for its prin'iary object to pro vide a sin'iple and eilicient means tor mount slat at each. end asheet metal plate 9 is secured. This plate which is of substantially triangular form has its body portion cut out as indicated at 10 for the sake oi lightness and economy in mam'ritaeture, and upon the wider end of said plate the U- shaped rib 11 is formed by pressing or stamping the same in asuitahle die. Upon. the edge of said plate at its wider end a prong or spur 12 is formed, and this spur is adapted to be bent over the end edge ot the wooden slat 8 and forced inwardly or embedded in the wood. It will therefore be seen that by the provision of this clenching spur, the rib plate is very rigidly and securely fastened upon the bed slat so that the U-shaped rib 11 thereof will. not be dis placed from its proper position with respect to the slat by a distortion oi the metal plate.
In the practical use of my invention, the ribs 11 on the ends of the bed slat 8 are engaged in the longitudinal grooves or channels 7 of the respective side rails of the bed. The slats may be freely moved longitudinally upon the rail flanges while at the same time the liability of the ends of the slats moving oil of the flanges by a lateral shitting or turning movement of the slats is pre vented by means of the ribs 11 as will be readily understood.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that l have produced a very simple and. lHO'XPt-Blh sive device which is oi? great convenience and service-ability in. practical, use and obviates the possibility of the ends oft-he slats .inoving oil oil the bed rails which will permit the bed springs to sag downwardly. In view of the extremely simple construction of the device, it will be manifest that the same can be produced at small manufacturrails of the bedstead.
The invention has for a more specific object to provide in addition to a bedstead rail having an inwardly extending longitudinally channeled flange, a ribbed plate of improved 't'orin secured to the underside of the bed slat, the rib of said plate being designed for engagement in the channel oi the bed rail- The invention has tor a further object to provide a device of the above character which is strong and din-able in its construction, highly convenient and serviceable in practical use, and maybe manufactured at small. cost.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following de scription and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a fragment of one of the side rails of the bedstead and one of the slats illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section; and Fig. 3 is an inverted perspective view of one end of the bed slat illustrating the manner oi. securing the ribbed plate thereto. ing cost.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 While I have above described the predesignates the bed rail which is formed ferred form, construction, and arrangenlent with an upstanding .outer. vertical flange 6 and an inwardly proj eeting horizontal flange 7. This latter flange is formed midway beunderstood that the device is, nevertheless, susceptlble oi considerable modification constructed of wood, and to one face oi said off the several elements employed, it will be.
therein, and I therefore reserve the privof said slat at its end and provided With a ilege of resorting to all such legitimate U-shaped rib spaced from the end of the bed changes as may be fairly embodied Within slat adapted for sliding engagement in said the spirit and scope of the invention as channel.
