characters of reference marked thereon,
which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates particularly to hangers for window screens, windows or the like, and has for its object the provision of an improved hanger of this class, which is capable of having the respective members thereof easily and quickly applied to a screen frame and casing, and provides a hinge support for the screen frame. The hanger also facilitates an easy and quick hanging in or removal of a screen frame from a window casing as desired and the members of the hanger are relatively adjustableto suit casings and frames of different thicknesses, thus enlarging its usefulness and enhancing its practicability and comnlcrcial value.
The invention is fully described in the fol-. lowing specification, and while, in its broader aspect, it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, a preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which 1 Figure 1 is a front elevation of portions of a window-casing and screen-franie equipped with my improved hanger. Figs. 2 and 3 are outer and inner side elevations thereof, respectively, with the screen-frame in secti on in the latter, and Fig. 4: is an outer side elevation thereof with the screen swung outward into position to permit a disengagement of the hinge members.
Referring to t-he drawin s 1 desiq'nates a i '3 7 2b window-casing, and a screen-fra1ne fitting therein. a
In hanging a screeirframe, or the like, in a window-casing a set of hinged members 3, 4; embodying my invention is disposed at each of the upper corners of the; screenframe and may be positioned at the top of the casing or intermediate its top and bottom as the screen may be intended to en tirely or only. partially cover the casing scrmvs 5.
openin fl. are, respectively, attached to the casing and screen-twine, and each has a base or foot portion, whiohis iigidly fastened to its carrying part in any stutable manner, as by Extending outward from the in nor edge ofthe member 3, or that which. is adjacent to the casing opening, is aflange or tongue part 6, whiclris vei .ically slotted,
as at 7, from its topedge downward and has ts lower end terminating short of the lower edge of the flange and outwardly angled, as at 7. i
The member 4:, which is preferably attached to the section frame, is provided at its outer edge, or the edge thereof which is adjacent to the associated side edge of the section f1:-a11'1e,w1tl1 an outwardly projecting flange or tongue 8, which parallels the flange 6 of the member 3 and is disposed. 111 slightly inwardly spaced relation thereto. The flange or tongue 8 is prefer ably longer than the flange 6 and is provided with an elongated slot 9, which extencs outward from the base portion 4t or i is well understood in the art. in the nesei it instance, the members and.
.in a direction which is substantially at right a angles to the slot 7 of the other member of the hinge. pivot-stud 10, which is preferably in the natureof a bolt, is projected through the slot 9 and fixedly secured in proper adjustment to the flange 8 by nuts 11, which are threaded on the bolt shank at opposltesides of such flange.
In hanging the 'screen-fran'ie, the pivot stud 10 at each of the upper corners thereof, 1s intended to be inserted lnto the slot 7 of the associated member 3 and to seat in the lower angled end portion. Wthercof, as
shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and the adjustment necessary to adjust the pivot-studs 10in the carrying-members 4t-8 to place such studs in proper relation to the receiving slots 7 of the respective members 36. The angling of the lower end portion of the of the pivot-stud relative to the flange 8 pivot-receiving slot 7. locks the screen-frame against vertical movements within the casing when the screen is fitted therein. To re move the screen it is necessary to swing the screen-frame outward a sufficient distance to permit the stud to move inward into position to be withdrawn from" the slot, as indicated in Fig. l.
I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction or arrangement oi? the parts except in so far as such limitations are specified in the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what T I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is,
1. A hinge of the class described comprising two members, one having a vertically disposed slot with its upper end openpresence of two subscribing witnesses.
