To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. ORABILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Battle Creek, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed Devices or Troughs, of which the following is a specification; Th s invention relates to improvements in feed devices or troughs. The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide an improved knock-down feed device for poultry which is adapted for feeding of grain, meal, wet feed, or chopped hay or the like. Second, to provide an improved knock-down feed device which,

when knocked down, is quite compact and,

may be shipped or stored in the knock-down and set u by the user without the useof tools. Thlrd, to provide an improved feed device .having these advantages, which is very simple and economical in structure, and at the same time, very eflicient.

Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.

The invention is clearly defined and point ed out inthe claims.

In the drawings similar reference characters refer "to similar parts throughout the several views, and-the sectional v1ews are taken looking in thedirection of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.

Referring to the drawing, the pen or trough 1 is formed of sheet metal and is preferably square, the side walls be ng provided with inturned flanges 2 at thlr upper edges which prevent the fowls to a large extent from throwing the grain or feed from the trough while feeding. I

The hopper or receptacle consists of slde walls 3 and 4 arranged in opposed pairs to form a rectangular open-ended box. The walls 3 are provided with inwardly-turned flanges 5 having seam members 6 formed thereon. The walls 4 are provided with outwardly-turned seam members 7 coacting wlth the seam members 6 of the walls 3. These seam members are engaged by a telescoping movement of the walls.

The wall supports 8 are angle-shaped strips secured in the bottom of the trough in a spaced relation to its side walls and provided with vertical slots 9.. .A bolt 10 is arranged through each side wall and through the slot 9 ofone of the supports and provided with a clamping nut 11. Thus arranged, the side walls are supported in a.

vertical position and retained in their assembled relation and also the lower edge of the hopper is supported in a suitably spaced relation to the bottom of the trough. The interior of the hopper is entirely free from obstruction.

The cover 12 is' provided with flanges 13 at its edges adapted to close over the edges of the side walls. The ears 14 are secured on opposite side wallsand ofiset so that the covercloses between the same, as shown in Fig. I.

The hanger 15- is provided with inwardly projecting pintles 16 which are inserted through the ear "over the cover and serve to lock the cover in place. When it is desired to remove the'cover, these pintles are partially withdrawn, which permits the cover being taken ofl'.

V Inpractice, the bail is comparatively short and the feed device is supported in an elevated position above the floor by a cord. My improved feed device is well adapted for feeding whole grain, ground grain, or meal, or wet feed, and even chopped hay.

By adjusting the hopper on its supports, the

space between its lower edges and the bottom of the hopper is regulated to control the feed according to the character of food used. p The structure is shipped in the knock-down, the supports 8 being preferably formed of suitable metal to permit their being straightened out and the side walls and cover laid inside of the trough above the supports. In assembling, the supports are raised up and the side walls assembled by merely telescoping their seam clamped up, the supports serving thedouble members together, and bolts inserted and 1 purpose of retaining the side walls in their assembled relation and that of adjustably supporting the hopper.

My improved feed device is very economical,both in the matter of material and labor. Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim is new anddesire to secure by Letters Patentis:

1. In a knock-down feed device, the .combination of a shallow pan or trough, a hopper comprising a pair of opposed side walls having inturned flanges on their vertical edges provided with seam members and a pair of opposed coacting side walls having seam members on their vertical edges interlocking with said seam members of said flanges, said wall seam-members being eugaged by longitudinal telescoping movement of the walls, vertically slotted wall supports projecting upwardly from the bottom of said pan in a spaced relation to the Walls thereof, and bolts arranged through each of said side walls engaging said slots, said bolts being provided with clamping nuts, whereby the hopper is adjustably supported in said trough in a spaced relation to the sides and bottom thereof, and the walls are retained in their assembled relation.

2. In a knock-down feed device, the combination of a shallow pan or trough, a hopper comprising side walls having interlocking seam flanges on their vertical edges, said wall seam members being engaged by longitudinal telescoping movement of the walls, vertically slotted wall supports projecting upwardly from the bottom of said pan in a spaced relation to the walls thereof, and bolts arranged through each of said side walls engaging said slots, said bolts being provided with clamping nuts, whereby the hopper is adjustably supported in said trough in a spaced relation to the sides and bottom thereof, and the walls are retained in their assembled relation.

3. In a knock-down feed device, the combination of a shallow pan or trough, a knockdown hopper comprising separable side walls, wall supports projecting upwardly from the bottom of said pan 1n a spaced relation to the walls thereof, and bolts arranged through each of said side walls and supports, whereby the hopper is supported in the trou h and its walls are retained in their'assembled relation.
