To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Ismon Hmonnnmcn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Advertising Novelties, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accon'ipanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.

My invention pertains to advertising novelties. It is one of the objects of my invention to provide a device which will be of value as an advertising medium by farnishing noise and amusement for the user.

It is a further object of my invention to provide such a device that is economical to manufacture and that is capable of application with an unlimited variety of advertising matter. p

In the following description and accompanying drawings, I have disclosed one pre ferred embodiment of my invention, it bemg understood that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

In the drawing: Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, showing a device, constructed .in accordance with my invention, attached to an advertising card; Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows; and F 3 is a view in side elevation showing a varied application of the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

Like reference characters refer to the parts throughout the following description and the several figures of the drawing.

My invention comprises a device which is attached to a card, sheet of paper, fan, or the like, on which advertising matter is printed, and which forms therewith a whistle. It is designed for use at ball games, street fairs, and the like, and by affording amusement and noise, attracts attention to the advertising matter which it is desired to place before the public.

To this end, in the embodiment of my invention illustrated, a plate 4; forming the body of the device, and stamped out of suitable thin sheet metal, is so formed that one portion thereof is concave as at 5. Across the concave portion 5 is stretched a strip of thin paper 6 or other material having the functions of a reed, the strip being of sufficient length to fold back at the ends 7, where it is pasted to the back of the plate 4. The reed (3 is so placed that its edge is just below the edge of the metallic plate 4L. The plate 4 is attached to a card 8 by means of a pair of flexible pointed prongs 9 struck up from laterally extending arms 10, which are formed integral with the plate at the end thereof opposite the concave portion 5. The plate 4 is pressed until the prongs 9 pierce the card, whereupon they may be bent over (as shown in Fig. 2), thereby securing the device in place. The plate 4 is attached to the card 8 in such a position that the edge of the concave portion 5 is adjacent an edge 11 of the card, the reed 6 being between the card and the plate. As a result, the card, reed and plate form a whistle which is operated by blowing on the same. As the card is flexible, the distance between it and the plate may be varied by bending the card, and consequently the character of the noise or whistle produced is altered at will.

It will be noted that no advertising matter is printed on the device itself, but rather on the card or other article to which it is attached, consequently an endless variety of use is possible, as it is not necessary to alter the device for different uses. It may be manufactured in large quantities and applied as desired.

Fig. 1 shows the device attached to a card 8, representing a box of confection, and Fig. 3 shows it applied to a fan 12, on which advertising matter is printed.

\Vhen these articles are distributed at ball games, fairs, and the like, the whistle all'ords amusement to the user, and its use cannot fail to attract attention to the printed matter, thereby rendering it of value as an advertising medium.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. As a new article of manufacture, the combination with a sheet of paper, of a plate having a portion thereof formed concave and provided with prongs for attaching it to said sheet, with the edge of the concave portion adjacent an edge of said sheet, and a reed stretched across said concave portion.

2. As a new article of manufacture, the combination with a sheet of paper, of a plate sheet, and a reed stretched across said concave portion.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a plate having a portion thereof formed concave, a reed stretched across said concave portion,

and prongs for securing said plate to a sheet of paper with the edge of the concave portion adjacent an edge of said sheet, whereby a whistle is produced.

i. As a new'article of manufacture, aclip formed of sheet metal concaved at its upper end and having a reed stretched across said concaved portion, and a penetrating prong portion arranged to pass through a card and be bent over for holding said clip in position on said card, with the edge of the concave portion adjacent the edge of the card.

5. As a new article of manufacture, the combination with a sheet of paper, of a plate having a portion thereof formed concave and having a pair of laterally extending arms formed integral therewith, a pair of flexible prongs struck up from said arms for attaching said plate to said sheet with the edge of its concave portion adjacent an edge of said sheet, and a reed stretched across said concave portion.
