BUTTON-HOOK ATTACHMENT FOR PENCIL-FERRULES.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT B. BRUNS- WIGK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Button-Hook Attachment for Pencil-Ferrules; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a new and useful button hook attachment for pencil ferrules.

One of the objects of the invention is the provision of a device of this nature having desirable and practical features of construction.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a button hook that is always convenient upon ones person, for instance a lady, as a rule, carries a small pencil by which she is able to make memorandums when shopping, and by possessing the pencil, the button hook is always convenient in order to fasten her gloves. This same rule holds good relative to pencils that may be carried by, men. In other words, a man having a pencil for his office work or for making other notes, while not in the oflice, likewise has a convenient button hook to fasten the gloves or the like.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view showing the improved button hook as applied to the ferrule of a pencil, and acting as means to hold the pencil in the pocket. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the pencil ferrule.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, l designates a ferrule or sleeve, which as a rule fits upon the pencil 2. This sleeve or ferrule is constructed with an integral extension, shaped to form a. button hook 3, the shank of the' extension is designated by the character 4. The button hook 3 has its end 5 so arranged as to form a hook, whereby the pencil may be retained in the Specification of Letters Patent.

pocket of wearing apparel, the hook being smooth so as to not injure the wearing apparel where it engages with it.

From the foregoing it will be noted that there has been devised an improved attachment for pencil ferrules, not only acting as a button hook, but also constituting an improved, desirable and practical pencil re-. taining device, to hold a pencil in the pocket.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. In combination, an extension forming an integral part of a pencil ferrule, said extension being bent upon itself to form a loop acting as a button hook, one side of the loop being yieldable and detached from the ferrule and having its extremity formed in an inturned hook, the outer hump of which being substantially flush with the periphery of the ferrule.

2. A pencil retaining device comprising an extension forming an integral part of the pencil ferrule, extending upwardly beyond the ferrule and alined therewith, and having a return bend forming a free yieldable portion extending toward the ferrule, the extremity of said portion terminating in an inturned hook, the hump of which being in substantial alinement with the periphery of the ferrule, said hook and the hump constituting means to cause a partial fold in the pocket'of wearing apparel partially overlying the ferrule to assist in retaining the pencil in the pocket.

3. A pencil retaining device comprising an extension forming an integral part of the pencil ferrule, said extension extending beyond the ferrule alined therewith and having a portion bent back toward the ferrule, said portion terminating at its free end in an inturned hook, the outer hump of which i being in substantial alinement with the periphery of the ferrule.
