CHARLES L. BUNDY, OF MINOR, KANSAS.
FORCE-FEED OILER.
Specification of Letters l'atent.
Patented July 21,1914.
Application filed July 9, 1913. Serial no. 778,084.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES L. BUNDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minor, in the county of Rawlins, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and'usen1 Improvements in Force-Feed Oilers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, .vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in force feed oilcrs, and has for its object to provide a device of this character sothat the same can be easily attached to an engine for lubricating the piston and slide valve thereoi A further object of the invention is to so construct a device of this character that the feed of oil can be automatically regulated.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a plan View, showing the device applied to the steam chest of an engine cylinder. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view on line 3-3 of Fi 1. Fig. 4 is'a similar view on line 44 Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a similar view on line 5-5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the device.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a base, which can be bolted or otherwise secured to the steam chest 2 of the cylinder 3. Fixed to the base 1 is a cylindrical casing 4, which is disposed horizontally in respect to the base 1, and has one end provided with a removable cap 5, which is provided with a central bore 6, in which operates the stem 7 of the check valve 8. The outer end of the stem 7 is provided with an adjusting nut 9, which serves to regulate. the tension which surrounds the stem 7 Connected to one side of the casing 4 is a casing 11, in check valve 12, said and exact description of the inof the coil spring 10v ing 4 and the oil tank cas ng 4, and diametrically opposite the casing 11 is a casing 14, the same being also provided with a check valve 15. The casing 14 is provided with a nipple 16, which engages the steam supply pipe 17 which leads to the cylinder 3. Connected to the casing 4, at the end opposite to the cap 5 is 2. cylinder 18 in which reciprocates the plunger 19, to the outer end of which is connected the arm 20, said arm being connected at its lower end to the usual valve when the same is reciprocating, similar movement will be imparted to the plung From this construction it will be seen that when the plunger 19 is moved outwardly, oil will be sucked through the casing 11 and into the casing 4, whereupon said plunger upon its return stroke will force the oil drawn in the casing 4 through the casing and to the engine. adjusting the movement of the check valve .8 upon manipulation of the nut 9 that it can be so adjusted that upon the out stroke of the plunger 19, a certain quantity of air will be drawn in reducing the suction in the casin 4, with the result that a less quantity 0 oil will be sucked from the tank 13. Further it will be noted that the device will operate only during the time that the engine is in opera-v tion, V
The outer end of the cylinder 18 is pro vided with a possible leakage of oil or air.
"What is claimed is tlon of a casing,a cap connected to one end of. the casing, a bore formed through the cap, a stem operable in thecap, a check valve connected to the inner end of the stem, a coil spring surroundin the outer endof the stem, a nut for regu ating the tension of said spring, a casing connected to one side of themain casin and having a In an oil pump for engines,'the combina- 90 l centrally stem 21, so that It is obvious that upon.
