ll'hc conductor 15 is common to the lamps 14, and to each of the lamps is attached separate conductors 16 which are carried downwardly in the form of a cable 17 through one of the tubes 11; the conductors 16 being connected to respective, several brushes 18 which bear upon a switch disk 19 which is provided with an annular conductor 20, Fig. 2, which is energized by a lead wire 21 in circuit with the lead wire 15.
The switch disk is provided with a concentrically arranged series of segmental insulators 22, movable over the lamp wire brushes 18, so that these will be successively energized and the lamps .14 successively or simultaneously illuminated, as the case may be, during the rotary movement of the disk 20, which is shown as being secured to a shaft 23 extending from a suitable spring motor 2% which is secured to the bottom of base member 9.
Power is transmitted from the spring niotor Q-l through a driving spindle 25, which is quickly and easily coupled to a coupler 26 secured on the lower end of the rotary, decorated drum or cylinder 2. However, the coupler 26 does not bear. downwardly upon the spindl 25 of the clockwork with any degree of pressure; the entire load of the cylinder 2 being carried by the ball-bearing 7, since any downward pressure of the coupler 26 upon the spindle 25 would tend to stop the chick-work. The coupling connection between the members 25 and 26 is of that nature designed to transmit a rotary movement to the cylinder 2; the couping device permitting free, endwise novcinent either of the cylinder 2 or the driving spindlc in order to effectually protect and cover the mechanism in the lower part of the apparatus, I. attach to the lower side base plate 9 a suitable shell or cover 27, which may be fastened by means of the bolts or other devices M) which unite the sections.

\Vhen the cylinder 2 is rotated, the gov ernor balls 31 are thrown outwardly and the friction of the shoes 32 rubbing on the friction plate33 is sullicient to check the rotary movement of the cylinder under the impulse of its driving motor 24. The friction disk 38 is adjustable, vertically, by means of a set-screw or other equivalent device 34 so that the desiredspeed of rotation of the cylinder 2 may be readily obtained.
After the clock-work or motor 24: has been wound and permitted to run, it will revolve the cylinder through means of the loose coupler 2526, and when a certain speed is attained the governors 31 will come into effect and thereafter control the speed of rotation of the cylinder 2; meanwhile the disk switch 19 is being rotated. by the spring motor Q-l and the circuits of the lamps 14: successively or simultaneously closed when the several brushes 17 rest upon the common conductor 20 of the disk switch 19.
